I may not be able to hear it until he was very close if I am turning more than 5K and have my windows closed... I was side to side with a K20 powered Civic hatchback and couldn't hear over mine it once we both were over 100MPH. I think my window was down then...

dont think he means racing...just that a cat-less k20 with a 3" header back will make eardrums bleed...especially when it starts resonating in the exhaust piping

I told a friend who just picked up a DC5R over in Iwakuni to cut out the sub-taiko (pre-canister) in the mid-pipe to open it up some soundwise. Here are a few comments that followed...

And hopefully by cutting out that huge ass canister, it will give the car a little more purr.

Jerk_Racer, on 23 December 2011 - 06:45 PM, said:
Purr is not a word I would use. Going off of the ringing in my ears from having ridden in 555sexydrive's DC5R some years back, purr isn't the word. But, there might not be a word for it. Ever been around any big cats? Like mountain lion big cats. When they have that 'purr', it's a sound that sounds downright scary. I'd say that about that sound.

I love me some Honda symphony...pure aural bliss.

My 5R I had limited to 8750 and it saw it daily. Really was no reason to go more as it didn't make any more power with the stock bottom end and head. Ohhh did it scream though and just ripped through the revs.

JC, is your tranny a 5R tranny as well? If not, change that FD to at least the 5R 4.785 or even better yet go for the FD2R 5.1.

That K20 R/S [(~1.77:1) or 5.985/3.39] says rev it to the moon! Like 11k+ rpm. I've seen worse go higher and love it.

Git you some beefy springs, some adjustable gears and the biggest cam you can stick in there to take advantage of that 3" megaphone you have comin out the back of the car.

Then hog out the head, blend the bowls, knife edge the dividers, cut some reliefs into the pistons for the valves and let her scream.

Because racecar.

Note: This may require some clutch/gearbox fuckery due to the high rpm and potential lockout/drag with a stock clutch.

Lookin good man!

The limiting factor is the inlet manifold on the K really. I swapped out the PRC to the RBC, but even it has it's limits. ITBs and 11000 is where it is at on the K.

Weld up a big tapered round plenum, say 6L. Nice fat and short runners. Call it a day. And if you ever go turbo, your all set for something serious.

ITB's would be fun, probably cost a bit more though. But certainly better response and top end than a manifold in the majority of cases.

Yeah, when i pick up an FA Si im going to either look at a different Intake manifold or ITB setup. Im going to look at definately caming it, throwing some adjustable gears on it and thro some 11.7:1 ratio pistons in it (which is type-r spec). My goal is to a build a 300hp NA daily driver that can also scream when i need it to...

and that custom exhaust is SEXY! Draggin it would be a shame...its just so.....BEAUTIFUL!
