Slate article on fit (Fit = #1)

http://www.slate.com/id/2151465/fr/rss/

another article that loved the fit. The only problem is if you read his comments, u find that he doesnt' know much about cars. Here's one that turned me off:

But the biggest flaw on the Versa I tried was with its stick shift. The transitions were herky-jerky, and engaging the clutch was less smooth than it should have been. Worse, there's a real issue with the location of the gears. Reverse is in an odd spot—the upper left corner, as with some Volkswagens I've driven. This would be OK, except that Nissan placed a sixth gear just where you'd expect reverse to be (the lower right corner). Several times I shifted into what I thought would be reverse only to find that when I released the clutch the car jolted forward and quickly stalled. No doubt one could adjust to this in time. (Or one could just buy an automatic.) But it's an annoyance and even a bit of a safety hazard.
If youve ever driven a 6 speed, u'll see immediately what's wrong w/ this.

Also, they siad Fit has short throws. I've driven many sticks (mitsu might-max truck, tacoma 6 speed, CRX, civic, s2000) and Fit has normal throws. It's smooth as the tacoma I drove, but definitely not short.

The Fit does have short throws, compared with other cars its class, and some other that are much more expensive

really. S2000's throws are like 1/2 inch. the clutch is the same way: it only depresses like 2 inches.

anyway the article they didnt's eem to spend enough time writing. b/c they complained about center guages in the ion, but didnt' mention it in the scion. the fit review seems really short. they said its their fav car w/o going in depth.

anyway we can agree on one thing. Fit = #1

A Quebec publication Guide D'Auto 2007 has supposedley named the Honda Fit "car of the year". I have not read the book, but I am familiar with the author and he is a well respected highly knowledgeable car expert (I don't like the word expert since we are always learning), and I'm sure he's based it on some sound reasoning.

Later,
Bill

Short throws, yes, compared to the 1960s Volvos of my youth that had shifters as long as my arm and the pattern throw was almost its equal.
