Anyone "downgrade" their DD to a Fit? (I have a 7th Gen '05 V6 Sedan Accord EX)

Yeah, I know.. crazy move. Just like 06 325i Beemer guy who made a thread on here.

Anyway, money isn't an issue seeing as how the Accord and Formy are both paid off.

Back in 2001 I picked up a '01 Civic EX Coupe 5spd as my daily (Civy webpage). In '02 I picked up the Formy.

Putted around and beat the ever living snot out of the Civy and loved it. If I wanted real speed I'd hop in the Formy.

Well come December 2005 I was ready for a change w/ the Civy. Wanted to get into an auto cause I was sick of rowing gears and also wanted something more pratical.. ie. 4 doors. Hence I got the Accord. (Links to pics in sig)

Now I like the Accord and all.. but MEH is it BORING!!! I've got a 40mile round trip to work, so I'm stuck in the car for an hour every day. Miss the days of thrashin in the Civy.

Anyways.. I dunno what it is but this litte Fit bugger is growing on me. Looked in the MZ3 sedan but meh.. it's just a slightly smaller version of what I already have... plus if you deck it out it's ~22k! Same for the latest Civy Sedan. Oh and I've never owned a hatch (I think the MZ3 Hatch is too big), so that'll be a nice change I'm hopin.

Sooooooo has anyone 'downgraded' their daily driver to a Fit? I know I'll be going back to rowing gears... but meh.. oh well.. I think I could over come it. Plus 95% of my work drive is highway anyways, not stop-n-go.

Downgrade????

I'm not sure if it is downgrading?

I think of it more as "smart sizing"!!!:D

Sold a Maxima SE (V6 engine) with auto transmission sunroof, BOSE stereo,ABS, K&N filter, GReddy SP exhaust, Bridgestone Potenza RE-950 215/60-15 tires. This was a good car, my driving school instructor drove it at the local track in completely stock form a few years ago and was lapping modded cars driven by good students.

The FIT is a modern car, it's got enough going for it that most drivers will do fine as long as they don't expect a luxury sports car like an Acura,Infinity or Lexus.

Today gas prices are the leading reason to "smart size".

Also the FIT has room and can accomidate people and cargo better than any sedan. Almost as good as having a station wagon or mini-minivan.

Maybe it should be called a microvan or microwagon.;) :D

I sold a Mercedes Benz C240 with only 23,000 miles on it for the Fit. It's interesting how effective the auto manufacturers have been in making people "think" that the price that they pay for a car or truck is a statement of "Their" worth.
The Fit is Fun! It feels big when sitting inside. The Fit gobbles up almost anything that you may want or need on a trip. The engine is quiet, has adequate power and is capable of delivering over 40 mpg. Oh! and the Fit will bring you smiles when traveling a tight twisty road.

Guess you need to decide if you need to make a statement about how much you can afford to spend or spend enough to have fun in a safe capable vehicle.

I'm much happier with my Fit than I was in the Mercedes. In fact I just came in from waxing the Fit again. The Silver Storm Sport is sooo pretty!

Using Car & Driver results to compare my first generation USDM Mazda Miata MX-5 to the USDM Honda Fit gives the following :

Miata (C&D of 9/89) Fit (C&D of 5/06)
Weight: 2210 lb ------- 2481 lb
Length: 155.4 in 157.4 in
Width: 65.9 in 66.2 in
Height: 48.2 in -------- 60.0 in
HP: 116 109
EPA mpg: 25/30 33/38
0-to-60 mph: 9.2 sec ------ 8.7 sec

What a difference 17 years & VTEC makes—better mileage & acceleration, yet heavier and less horsepower. Heck yes, I traded the roadster in on a “station wagon”, and don't consider it a "downgrade" at all!

My wife will be going from a 2003 Nissan Murano to the 2007 Fit Auto Sport - - her idea and she's excited - - so whatever makes her happy :)

Should pick the car up in less than two weeks.

2000 Ford Explorer to 2007 Red Fit Sport 5sd. 14/19 mpg to 33/38 mpg. Four sets of clubs and a foursome to four walking bags and foursome. I paid 24k for the Explorer new in 2000, sold for 4.5k six years and 101k miles later. If I'd bought a Honda CRX in 2000 it would be worth about 10k now. I was working as a Air Traffic Controller and had to be at work no matter the weather in 2000. Now retired and working in a golf shop. I'd say I traded up but, also lifestyle changed. I love my Fit, I love ambushing VW Beetles and non S Mini Coopers and lots of other cars. I love going to the car wash and having the guys there asking "what is it". Its fun, I could afford anything I want, my wrist watch is worth more than half what I paid for my car, but this thing is just FUN!

Went from an 05 WRX Wagon with 280 HP to the Fit. You can probably find what I posted by using the search function, but in a nutshell, the Fit holds more, its more agile, its more fun to drive and it gets better mileage. In a straight line, the WRX would rape the Fit, and I still think of the WRX as my favorite car I've ever owned (out of these 2, 01 Celica GTS, 90 Eclipse and 03 Mazda Protege5) but the Fit is a bit better for the circumstances I'm in now.

The fit is suprisingly fast. In rpms below 4000, my bro says the fit is faster than his s2000.

But man...i don't know what it is about the fit, but it's fun to drive. The speed and its fun-ness is what suprised me about this car. I got this car b/c it was "green" (coudln't afford a hybird), and I got more goodies than what i expected.

Ah, i think your right.

It's not a downgrade.

He's going from a 'Honda' to a 'Honda'.

Now, If he was going from a BMW, or (any other luxury brand name), to a Honda, THAT, would be a downgrade, or worse.

I sold my 96' Acura Integra LS, and got a 2007 AT Honda Fit. I love the Fit, but I miss the handling of my Teg!! I purchased the T1R springs and I am not sold on them yet( had eibach pro kit with tokico blues on the Teg). As for my wife I got her to trade in her sh*t Jeep "Grand" Cherokee for a EX Civic. Never buy a Jeep!!!! She loves the Civic. Wanted her to wait for the Si Sedan, but she could not!

downgrade?

My wife and I bought both an Accord, and a Fit within about a six month period -- I love both cars, but truth be told, I tell anybody who asks, that we should have bought two Fits! It is such a handy car, and runs on fumes (I just breath in the tank after having a few pints of beer):D

However, I'm sure we'll be a little more comfortable on long road trips in the Accord, but we won't be able to bring the kitchen sink with us!;) The Fit takes so many things easily -- try and put a large TV in the trunk of an Accord, and you'll know right away that you should have brought a Fit along!

So, downgrade.....nah! I can't see it as a step down, but rather the right step!

Later,
Bill
