I went from a '05 Ford Escape Hybrid to the Fit. Hardly a downgrade as the quality of the Ford product sucked, especially in the interior fit and finish and materials. I look forward to driving my Fit, which is complete opposite of the Escape. It used to be that driving my wife's Murano was a treat compared to the Escape, but now it feels like a tank compared to the Fit.

 

I looks as though there are a lot of you that have come from high horsepower AWD platform cars, ie. Wrx, Sti, Evo, R32. Do any of you regret the change? If you could do things over again, would you have gone with the fit again?

 

i miss the power on the highways a lot, especially when going uphill.

on city streets, the FIT is just as tossable. but the gas mileage compared to the wrx is a whole different league. i used to get 18-19 mpg city in the wrx. i get around 26-27 with the FIT city right now, round 28 bucks to fillup the FIT, compared to 47-49 bucks for the wrx.

i DO miss the boxer rumble and AWD, but i dont need the AWD so much living in southern california, but that flat four was great.

if i could choose over again, id probably still get a FIT. if subaru came out with a car that was comparable with other econoboxes, then id probably trade in my FIT for that, just because i like subarus.

 

I still go to the evo forums and sometimes I still miss it, but then I remember why I let it go again. You just can't buy an evo and not expect things to break...its basically a mild race car and fast parts go fast quick. I will stick with my honda till something more fun to drive comes around. But I wouldn't buy an evo again thats for sure.

 

Y'all are making me feel a lot better. I'm getting rid of a Jetta 1.8T for the Fit. I consider this a pretty serious downgrade, but the Fit will be more reliable and will save a little on gas.

The term "downgrade" really depends on the person. For me personally a downgrade would be going from a Fit to a BMW. Just because I can afford one, doesn't mean I want one or should get one.

To me for example, getting a BMW, would be like selling out to become like all the other yuppies in Southern California. No thanks. I'd sooner pour salt in my eyes than ever drive a BMW or Benz just to be "cool". Status symbols are overrated and usually overpriced. Get what floats your boat and makes you happy, don't waste time worrying about what other people think. For all you know those other people giving you opinions are crazy and locked in a padded room somewhere. :p

Werd...Everybody was like WTF are you doing this for...because its WHAT I WANT...they are paying you to drive your car...get what you want...besides these cars look bad ass;)

- 2002 subaru wrx (loved the car, but hated that turbo lag...hit the gas...wait for it...wait for it...whiplash!)
- 2004 honda civic ex
- 1999 acura cl 3.0 (my fav before the fit)
- 2007 honda fit sport
now, that i have the fit, i do not miss any of my previous cars...it's that fun!

 

oh yeah...neglected to mention 1989 pontiac grand am se and 1990 chevy blazer...must've blocked 'em out :D

 

Just traded in my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT sedan (MT) for a SS Fit Sport (MT) and paid less than $500 OTD. Another turbo AWD convertee. I'm sure I'll miss the excessive power, but I'm getting old (31) and feel like I'm done with the "fast car" thing.

Other reasons for trading in:
* Wife has a Highlander Hybrid (for family trips), so having a good all-weather car wasn't a big priority any more.
* Pretty much just drive to work and back (5 miles) and on short trips, so the Legacy GT was overkill.
* Gas.
* Legacy GT had numerous things that annoyed me, such as way too much body roll and a notchy, very high resistance shifter (slow-traffic driving around town was not fun).

Guess I need to take some pics, but here's a mental image: Imagine the silver Fit Sport you've seen in other pictures, only in a different generic garage :p

Anyway, so far I'm happier with this purchase than any other car I've bought. Considered a few other cars, such as the xD and base Mini, but the xD sounded too boring and Mini dealer is 100+ miles away (and expensive). Did testdrive a Mazda 3, but my reaction was meh.

Before the 2005 Legacy, previous cars included a 2000 Legacy wagon, 2002 non-WRX Impreza wagon, and 1998 Civic sedan.

 

Well coming from a 300hp mustang to a 500hp mustang to a fit is a nice change. Both mustangs are/were race cars, so they were loud, rattled and were generally uncomfortable in daily drives. The fit is a DREAM, auto, relatively quiet, LOTS of space and as reliable as gravity. My only problem... its my wife's car. I don't know if i'll be trading in the Focus (just yet) to get another auto Fit.

A few days ago, we sold the trusty family "minivan" in order to clear a space in the garage and boost the down payment on the TW Sport AT Fit on order. The van in question (1994 Dodge Grand Caravan LE) was a true family pimpmobile with an extended body, factory tint, plush blue upholstery, silver trim and respectable 3.8L V6 that was running great. The new owners were thrilled.

With our Fit on order and expected to arrive within a couple of weeks, we will have shed 1013 lbs. of curb weight, 36 in. in length and 6 in. in width. Alas, we will also lose two pasenger spots.

In return, we will gaining 12-15 MPG in fuel efficiency, be able to pull a U-turn in 34 ft. vs. 44 ft. and stlll be able to fit our Corgi and groceries in the back.

From all that we can glean from our short test drive the great info on Fitfreak.net, we should be having a hellava lot more fun driving down the road.:D

 

I just upgraded back to a performance car again. I missed my STi and fell in love with an EVO IX RS. I did the deal last week. The EVO only had 1300 miles. It was fun guys. Good luck with your Fits. They're great cars!

 

LOL ^^. I have an Evo 9 as well and I absolutely love the car. Just seeing your post makes me cringe. Will I regret the change? decisions decisions.

So you're trading/selling your EVO IX for a Fit? All I can say is good luck with your decision. Make sure it's really what you want to do or you could regret it. The Fit is a great car for what it's intended for. However the same can be said for the EVO & STi. :D Different strokes for different folks is all.

 

Well im about to be on the same boat if you want to call it a "downgrade". Technically it is, due to the amount of options and price/worth of my current car which is a 2006 Mini Cooper S.

However in my own personal case, i consider it an "upgrade" for many reasons.

1.) I would have a smaller car payment
2.) I Would have alot less to pay off
3.) I'd have better gas mileage
4.) More than likely better reliablity in the long run
5.) I could run regular gas instead of premium
6.) Car insurance would be cheaper
7.) Yearly registeration would be cheaper
8.) More cargo room

I put down my $500 deposite this past weekend on a Milano Red Fit Sport A/T. (will take about 1-2 weeks to get here) I was orginally only intrested in the manual. But after driving my mini with DBW and a manual, the car really seems to struggle with the A/C on...especially during shifting. The car becomes alot more jerky/sluggish and shifting smooth is almost impossible at times. I really sat down and thought about what i would be useing this car for. I have a bad habit about day dreaming and thinking about autocrossing or doing engine swaps and what not. But the reality is im just to busy for most of that stuff and the car would be my to and from work car 95% of the time. So if im going to sit in bumper to bumper traffic and go light to light in 119 degree heat. I want an A/T so i dont have to deal with the lag of the DBW system and the tranny will soak up the jerkyness of the A/C being on.

Although i most likely wont be doing any performance mod's to the car (besides maybe a CAI, or slight exhausts mod). I will more than likely be doing things to the car cosmiticaly, such as wheels, lowering, possible body kit in the future and what not.

Anyways enough of my rambling...im just excited about getting my "upgrade" soon. Wish me luck during my wait. :rolleyes:

Nice pick up, I would do it again too if I wasn't waiting for the Evo X sportback model. I had an 05 RS in white. You have to love the raw simplicity of the RS, with manual locks, windows, and all race car. I never drove an sti but I was told they are overall better track performers with some good emenities. Good luck keeping your warranty though:D

 

I don't mind the "rawness" of the RS. All I need is an OEM radio and 2 front door speakers, an alarm with power door locks and I'm set. I AutoX'd it for the first time yesterday. :D
