The N54/N55 Inline 6s in the 135is are nice. Great low end torque and it carries it throughout the RPM range. Which carries its peak torque of 300 ft-lbs from 1500 RPMs till 5k. Very good engine performance wise and fuel efficiency wise... till it breaks.
An uncle of mine had an N54 (twin-turbo) powered E60 5 series and it had a couple of issues like the oil cooler cracking a weld (the car wasn't even 4 months old with less than 5k miles on the odometer) as well as had some sort of fault occur where the car went into limp mode a few months afterwards (not sure if it was high pressure fuel pump related though) and wasn't driven hard at all.
He now has a N55 (single, twin-scroll turbo) F10 5 series and so far nothing gone wrong engine wise. The module for the active seat feature on the driver's seat failed though. :\
With that said and speaking about BMWs in general, they're great cars but they are kinda fragile. As long as you get it with the 4 year/50k mile free scheduled service and warranty (or the 7 year/100k mile extended version if you keep it a longer than that) you won't have too much to worry about except when the car breaks. Then its just a matter of getting it to the BMW center, getting a loner, and wait till its fixed.
If you can pull for a new one, I highly recommend that you spec it out at the dealer to your liking and waiting a couple months for the car to arrive so you can of course use the full benefit of the warranty, free scheduled service, and really enjoy your car. Rather than deal with the Beige or Black Dakota interior cars that the dealer orders with only the Sport package (they have the Shadowline/black out window trim and stiffer suspension), Steptronic (automatic) transmission, and are usually either Jet Black, Alpine White, Titanium Silver or Space Grey in color.
If used, go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure you get the service records. If you are picking one up without a warranty and aren't doing the maintainece yourself, be prepared to see hourly rates from the BMW service centers around the $110/hr range.

Late 2011. It will no longer be known as the Toyota FT-86. It will be badged Scion and referred to as the FR-S. I loved the original prototype that is shown in your original post here and had planned on buying one but they have come out with a couple different prototypes since the one you show and I am no longer interested. It's gone too far over the top for me.

picture is definitely fake.. although who knows may look like that. Check FT86club for more pictures... they should be revealing the final look @ detroit auto show if I am not mistaken.
Also the subie and scion version will be turbo and non turbo... of course the scion version will be NA while the Subie is turbo... BUUUUUT there's this rumor going around that subaru version won't be turbo. WHICH is STUPID IMO ... there's no point if they do that.
I been following this car... I'm excited to see how it turns out. And I want to get the toyota version. I'm not too worried on the name... name is name. But the car and how it performs what matters more to me.

yah but it will be eaten even by a hyundai genesis coupe... maybe not in the canyons but most of the roads out there. :(
they really need to put a turbo and hit at least 0-60 of 5.5sec, 13.5 sec quarter

Are you sure about this? The pics I have seen of the test cars it looks alot bigger than that. It really looks like its the size of the genesis coupe or an nissan z car.

yah, im pretty sure it will be near or larger than the 370Z size with only like 2/3 or the power or less.
considering my G35C is significantly larger than my 370Z yet interior is kinda cramped in the back, i dont think toyota is going to release a car in this day and age with a smaller interior than my G. which means i am pretty sure the FT will be around the size of the genesis coupe.

Wheel base for the FR-S is 101.2". Overall length is 168.2". While the Z is close in these dimensions at 100.4" wheel base and overall 167.1" the FR-S is 4.5" lower than the Z car. The Genesis coupe has 111.0" wheel base with an overall length of 182.3".

Ok so they are all about the same size give or take. That what I figured. The FR-S does looks more agressive that these other cars. I really hope this thing is worthy to take the supra's place. The subie version should be pretty sick also (assuming its AWD and turbo).

I was very interested in this until I saw Scion as the maker. If toyota keeps it i would consider it, but Scion. NO.
The new TC. Attention all chicks and poser guys....Fart cans on ebay now available for this!!!!

yah, although i hate toyota when they announced they will use scion brand that really killed it for me. as far as looks go, you really want a car that looks fast yet slow?
