Fit vs. Ford Expedition
From Automotive News 6/27:
"LaFontaine Honda in Dearborn, Mich., recently took a Ford Expedition in trade for a Honda Fit. The buyer was a carpenter with a long daily commute. 'He came in strictly looking for a Fit, and it had to be orange,' sales manager Don Poley recalled. He takes all this stuff out of the Expedition and puts it into the Fit. It all fit!' Poley said. 'The guy drives 30,000 to 32,000 miles a year. That's why he figures it will pay for itself just in gas.'
"But most small-car customers are more likely to be people like Priscilla Blecha, who filled her new car's tank for the first time last week. She estimates that her new Fit gets 30 mpg in city driving - much better than her old car, an 11-year-old Chrysler LeBaron convertible. Chris Schneider, president of Honda Motorwerks, says he knew the Fit would be a hit even before gasoline prices started to rise. To him, the Fit's main asset is that it's a roomy hatchback with fold-down seats. To Blecha, the car's strong fuel economy was a bonus. And Schneider's bonus? Honda's green credentials were so strong that his customer bought the car - sight unseen."
