2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 SL (or SV) / LP 590-2

Originally introduced as the “affordable” Lamborghini, the Gallardo has now grown to feature several unique models in both two and four-wheel drive versions with varying power and price tags. Now rumors suggest that a high-performance version of the Gallardo is in the works, and will be unveiled to the public at the Geneva auto show.

The Gallardo currently is available in three trim levels – LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni, LP 560-4 Spyder and LP 560-4. According to Lamborghini nomenclature, the “-2″ refers to a rear-wheel-drive model, and the “-4″ designates an all-wheel-drive model. The rumor mill over at the Team Speed forum says Lamborghini is planning on letting a special guest list of VIPs take a sneak peak of an upcoming high-performance LP 570-4 SV in January, months ahead of the public unveiling rumored to be at the Geneva auto show.

Although Lamborghini has not confirmed any details, sources close to folks within Lamborghini claim that the next Gallardo model will feature a lower curb weight due to a stripped interior – similar to the previous SL version of the Gallardo, in addition to another 10 horsepower, reworked front suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, a new front spoiler and a large rear aero-spoiler.

In addition to this hot AWD Gallardo, there is also a report of a hopped-up RWD model – the LP-590-2 which will reportedly arrive in late 2010 or early 2011.

No word on expected pricing or predicted units for either models.

SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — Automobili Lamborghini appears poised to release one last extreme edition of its entry-level model at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show in early March. Although unofficial renderings of the car have been leaked on various Web sites, it's still not clear whether the upcoming Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 will be christened a Super Veloce or a Superleggera.

The online rumor mill has been active this week, with speculation centered on the car's exact specs and badging. The consensus appears to be that output will be bumped to 570 horsepower and, like the Murciélago LP670-4 Super Veloce that was unveiled at last year's Geneva show, the Gallardo LP570-4 will shed a bit of weight, thanks in part to more extensive use of carbon-fiber panels.

Also, unlike the most recently launched Gallardo, the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, the new LP570-4 will feature all-wheel drive. The early betting is that 0-60-mph acceleration should be accomplished in less than 3.5 seconds.

This is a rendering of the upcoming Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera by graphic artist Jon Sibal. The rendering, we are informed by our esteemed and trusted colleagues over at Teamspeed.com, is based on reliable info of what the Superleggera will actually look like once it makes it debut at the Geneva auto show in March.

The Superleggera will shed about 70 kg over its standard variant (if you can ever use the term 'standard' when speaking of a Lamborghini) and will come with an unimpressive 10 hp increase in power. But those missing 70 kilos will likely mark their lack of presence in the performance figures. The Superleggera will do the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in less than 3.5 seconds and will have a power to weight ratio of 2.35. The transmission will be the same gear box as in the LP560.

Distinguishing the Superleggera will be the Italian flag colored stripes on the side of the car, as seen in the image here. The model will come in 6 colors - Yellow, White, Black, Grey, Orange and Lime Green. It will come with a carbon fiber finished interior with stitching matched to the Green, Yellow and Orange for those Superleggeras. Grey stitching will have to do for the White, Grey and Black models.
