2010 Honda CR-Z

Honda CR-Z brochure leaks out, production specs revealed — Autoblog

1.5 liter i-VTEC (L15 anyone?)
112 hp from the engine (107 lb-ft torque)
14 hp from the electric motor (57 lb-ft torque)
6MT or CVT
0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds.
Few inches shorter than the Fit, both in terms of length and height.

Hopefully it'll have a multi-link rear like the Civic.

Though it's shorter than the Fit and won't have back seats, it'll have a big battery. I predict curb weight similar to the Fit.

Basically it'll be a Fit with similar or better rear suspension, way less cargo space, but better fuel efficiency.

The front isn't quite as ugly as the new Mazda 3, but it's another gaping maw. What has gotten into Honda and Mazda designers? Every few years, they seem to go through a fugly stage, then get over it for a while.

Unlikely as the engine is much smaller than the Si's 2.0 liter.

What it means though is the 6MT might easily drop into a Fit.

It'd need a K20 for me to come close to even considering it.

you really think we can put the 6mt on our fits? if thats the case, that would be sweet. imagine honda...for year 2011..the updated fit sport will come with optional 6spd manual with an increase in mpg up to 35/40!...that would kick ass..but would suck for us. hahaha.

the crz...i hate the nose and hood. looks so out of place.

Not sure I am sold on the legitimacy of that document. I am also disappointed if that is the final product. That is pretty slow compared to what I was hoping for, and the numbers are underwhelming.

I thought a 2 seater hybrid was a unique opportunity to make a quick ( reasonably so), fun, hybrid. And it looks like its a 2 door hybrid fit, blah....I'll wait for the USDM release before I judge I guess.

They keep putting this stuff out but there is a contingent at Honda who know that Fit based CRZ will be the equivalent of of a CRX HX and will lanquish on dealer lots while gas is $2.50.
The CRZ will succeed only if the 2 liter engine at 150 hp is augmented by the 14 hp motor. America wants an economical performance sports car not a cute hybrid.
The difference between a 40 mpg CRZ with 6 sec 0-60 times and a 40 mpg cute hybrid with 10 second 0-60 is the waiting list to own one.
Thanks to the Obama economy, only people who are pretty insulated from its incompetencewill be the marketplace for the CRZ as is. Looks like the same people who came up with Insight gen 2 also will provide the CRZ Hx and will have similar results. Its not too late for Honda to learn from the Insight gen2 experience.

what's with all the complaints about the crz's power? was the crx ever a 0-60 track star? probably not till tuners got their hands on them. as long as the crz is a nimble coupe with a peppy engine that's affordable and fun to drive then they've made a true successor to the crx. BTW, does anybody else think the crz's grille looks like the rx8? just me? ok...

i like the crz but my money is still on toyota's ft86

I wish the hybrid part was an option. Not a fan of any hybrids.

I have to admit, I didn't even know about the ft86 concept until now. After a bit of googling I can definitely say that I will be holding out for it as well. I've always wanted an AE86 but could never find one in good condition.

Obviously you never went to or participated in IMSA or SCCA racing. We have stacks of trophies and championships. THe CRX Si still commands high praise and prices for competition road-worthy. I suggest you watch "crx at vir' on you tube. That CRX is no longer in road race trim and has oversize tires and still cuts a 2:30 lap. the CRX HX was the slow runner that got 40 mpg regularly, as good as the Fit, without an expensive battery to replace, but is left far behind by an Si. I have both.
The CRX Si was and is a fanged sports car that got great gas mileage. Camaros were terrorized by them. The CRZ as so far advertised is nothing but a CRX HX/HF replacement and like the gen 2 Insight or the gen 1 will sell slowly. A 200 hp CRZ getting 40 mpg will sell iike hotcakes for free. If you're gonna be a sports car be a damn good one, not a cutesy pretender unless your aiming at being a 'chick' car. NOWDAYS THATS A REAL LOSER MARKETPLACE..

you misunderstood my post and it's my fault for wording it wrong. what i meant to say was that the crx was never a fun car because of how fast it got to 60mph or how much power it had from the factory -- in response to all the complaints of a 9 second 0-60mph time. it was (still is) nimble, zippy, and made trips to 7 eleven for a 3am mountain dew slurpee and a pack of smokes worth getting up for.

i agree, a 200hp crz WILL SELL. not to mention it will also cannibalize sales of the civic si coupe unless honda plans to axe that model trim and sell the civic si sedan exclusively.

can't see cannibalizing Civic Si's as thaty carries 4 and the CRZ only 2. Ones a sport sedan the other a sports car.

True, back in the late 80s Honda sold the Civic Si and CRX Si concurrently.

On a side note, I like getting you spun up mahout. There's a part of me that believes you regarding a 200 hp CRZ. After reading a bit about Toyota's FT-86 I can't imagine Honda keeping the CRZ hybrid-only for too long.
Then again, car makers have to meet CAFE standards. Maybe Toyota is in a better position to market a higher hp, lower mpg sport coupe because of well the Prius is selling.

Fit engine + electric motor + 6 speed + smaller car = slower than a Fit? Hmm.

my comparison is between the civic si coupe and the crz, NOT the sedan [obviously] and it boils down to this. if i were in the market for a sports coupe and my choices were the civic si (coupe) and the crz, why wouldn't i get the crz if it had the same amount of hp, is lighter (theoretically) AND got better mpg? i understand that the civic coupe can carry 4 passengers but that back seat is so small and uncomfortable that it might as well not be there; unless you're carrying children or friends/family smaller than 5'9 and weighs less than 160lbs.

i don't speak for the entire demographic but how many people agree with that logic? i'm probably not the only one.
