cab0053's CRV detail progess thread

My folk's sold me their 2002 CRV M/T (153k) for a dollar:) and then they bought the Fit.:( The girlfriend now drives the Jetta, and will do the payments.:)

I really like the CRV for the realtime AWD and the 160/162 hp/tq at the crank, i just wish the tires weren't bridgestone duellers. Those tires are POS! They cannot stick to the ground; dry, wet, straight, curves, slow, or fast. I have been driving automatic for a year and half, so the third pedal is still a little weird, esp going in and out of 1st. I suspect I have to replace the clutch sometime soon.

If you wanna check out all the pics
.

Anyways, the car was filthy. I suspect the car was washed every 50k with one of those powerwashers with the wash, rinse, wax buttons. And no vacuuming at all. bleh. anyways, dirty pics first, followed my my attempts to fix it.

Today I went out and did my first location photoshoot. I used my Canon powershot sd 780 IS with a tripod (that had like 30 moving parts). I experiment with the ISO and decided on ISO 80 for the most of the pictures, due to the extreme sunnyness. I liked the location alot, but I wish I had something with a wide angle lense, which I feel would have helped with the look I was trying to go for.

Why the trade off? Fit can do all the things a CR-V can do. :D

I never owned a fit. I would like to, but i can't. The economy car is too expensive for me. I do think that the cr-v is the big brother of the fit. It's what actually drew me to the fit in the first place.

if budget is the cr-v's favor. I found some eibach springs which might happen, but not coilovers ($1,200!!). I might get a new shoe setup in the spring, but havnt looked at any of it yet. something the sound department tho, head unit sucks big time.

^ nice clean-up job. That thing was FILTHY and now it's all nice again. Good photos too. Although it hasn't got half the personality of a Fit, it's a good solid driver. I can't give you any rep but when I can I will.

i love cr-v's and replacing the headunit is a welcome change...

but springs/coilovers? wheel gap? its and suv man, use it as such. you can get grippier tires, but the cr-v was never meant to be a corner carver.

but duelers do kinda stink. get some michelins.

There is nothing wrong with a CR-V and at least its a manual. I would say some wheels tires and spring couldnt hurt either, cause it has awd but its not really a good vehicle for offroading, just for icey conditions. The head unit would be first thing I would get rid of to. And you got one thing most of us fit owners want a k series motor. As far as the detail job you did good. I would'nt have bought a fit if I had that first.

CRV's lookin good! if you're up for it, you can paint those steelies another color or get rid of those rusted areas. :)

duplicolor wheel paints. i used 2 cans to do these and turned out decent.

this is their graphite color: just a thought. :)

I am a bit unhappy with the rust, and do you have any suggestions on their destruction?

But I dont wanna a suv! lol

new tires are a necessity, springs are not. high clearance is also not a necessity and because of that, I am considering purchasing springs sometime later, if at all.

what tires do you suggest?

general grabbers are one of the few tires that are 'performance' truck tires, but getting some touring all seasons by goodyear or yokohama should increase your grip significantly. (namely the yoko avid t4 and TRz,
and the goodyear assurance triple tread.
