Bringing a Canadian car into the U.S.?????

Hey guys...this pic made me start to think....if the Yaris was offered in 5dr here in the U.S. I would seriously have a tough time deciding between the Fit and the Yaris.

Then I thought, what stands in the way of buying a 5dr. Yaris hatch in Canada and bringing it back here? Could it be done?

Here's another pic of what the potential is for the 5dr. Yaris!

It is not worth the trouble. I looked into it before. You need a new speedo and smog certification - even though Canada has similar standards to ours.

the scion xa is pretty comparable so i would say save the trouble and just get that. i wouldn't be surprised if the new five-door yaris becomes the 2007 xa anyhow.

The 5 door Yaris is so tiny inside, it's pathetic.

I know the Fit is probably the better car...but for some reason I do like the looks of the 5dr. Yaris.

Maybe by early 2008 a 5dr. Yaris will be available here, whether it's under the Toyota or Scion badge.

I can see that importing one over the boarder from Canada could end up becoming a costly project.

I have to agree with b17gsr - you guys are not missing anything by not having the 5 door.

Just imagine the 3 door with two extra doors on it ... I don't know for sure, but there doesn't seem to be any extra room in the 5 door.

Expect to pay $23000 to $24000 CAD after tax for a 5 door Yaris RS trim, auto
We pay approx $25000 CAD after taxes for a Fit Sport Auto. (Approx 3-4k above MSRP for US)

Then expect cross border fees, as well as state tax when you register your car at the local DMV.
