The wheels on the pic's above are the twin-spoke middle upgrade option, there is another set that is a solid spoke chrome, it adds another 700$ to the cost.

My answer to the same issue was an '86 4runner for $1800. After 2 winters with the Fit here in Colorado it has been a good choice. I may upgrade to slightly used '09 Tacoma standard cab/5speed/4wd/AC basic truck in the $15k range.

Another fallback position is the '88 Ford F150 standard cab 4wd. That year gets you EECIV computer, serpentine belt, and fuel injection. A very serviceable truck - you just gotta hunt for a good one.

One of the big things that was turning me off trucks initially was I wanted a full size crew cab. As soon as you pick up that option the length of the truck ends up being too long to fit into my garage, which is not very good considering we get -40 weather for periods during the winter.

If they still made the Subaru Baja I would have probably been looking at that; not that I care about the style that much as long as it has the utiltiy I need, but it is even Fuglier than the H3T IMO.

Congrats, I like your logic!
Just don't try to drive across the Bow River when it freezes.

This is interesting.

I'll look into the H3T when I'm shopping around for a truck. I was looking into the Honda Ridgelines, I've been seeing dealerships trying to push them for 17K for the upscaled RT versions with tons of options... Honestly I want a AT engine, and the ridgeline can have the AWD option turned off or on (the AWD button on the lower left side of the dash area?)

But now that I know there is an alternative, I may look into it.

I need a 4x4 for winter, but anything new and huge and fancy is out of the question. I'm thinking something under $3,000. Like a early-mid 90s Pathfinder or something.
And screw H3's, sorry, but if I'm gonna spend $50-60,000 on a Hummer, I'm getting me a used H1.

haha, I just came across the Hummer is dead thread on here; it reminded me I had acutally detailed my buying experience with my Hummer, which I guess will soon be a collectible. I figured I would bump this thread for old times sake and post an update:

So I have had my H3T for almost a year... it has been a blast. People love it & people hate it, and much like when I take the Fit to autocross I get shamed whenever people see me take it off-road... although it actually lives up to it's name and literally goes anywhere!

I bought a bumper for it, threw on some giant 35" tires and lifted the front by about 2" to level it out. Aside from that it is pretty much stock.

A few recent pictures of my Truck:

From last Sunday:

It is exactly 1" from the roof of the door of my garage... I can't make it any higher! lol

Here is a Jeep that was with us doing the same water crossing and mud pit in as the last two pictures posted above.
