Good first car for under $10,000?
Ok, I already asked this, but seeing that my other thread (manual vs. auto) kinda died quickly, I might as well start another one for this. The question is, "What is the best used car for under $10,000?" For one, it should be similar to the Fit in its regard towards space, efficiency, reliable, safe, and fun (I know its a lot but I want to get as close to the Fit as possible). You guys know of any cars that are like this? I know of a few cars but I want first hand experience on what are good cars and what aren't. Thanks so much!

ok, not similar but i have a 03 galant and i like it alot (only comes in auto tho)...but i'd recommend an integra which is what i want to get this summer (for a second car).....VW Golf would work or a Nissan Versa 6 spd

Yea im looking at Evos, and S2Ks now used maybe to replace my fit. I love it but after moding it i realize it will never be that fun performance car i want. I just want a little bit more of a fun factor for a DD. I was going to try and get both a S2k and keep the fit but im in the USMC and i move every 3 years and trying to get 2 cars by myself would be a big pain. So i just need one car that is a fun ok DD. So im leaning toward the S2k for the honda last foever thing. But i did love my evo to.

A 1977 Plymouth Volare. Its no Fit, but it will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about maintaining a car. And after driving it for four or five years a Fit would seem like a Maybach 57s by comparison. Seriously though, stay far far away from used VWs. They are nice looking, classy fun to drive, but absolutely not reliable. By the time a Jetta or Golf has depreciated below 10K it is a time bomb waiting to go off. A Civic is a great car, that can be had under 10K and as long as you inspect it carefully before you buy it won't bite you in the ass.

As for what I am asking, just, basically, any hatchback (old eg or eks) that fits the bill. So I kinda narrowed it down. Hatchbacks similar to the eg or ek civics (or maybe those).

Boring poo-poo. Hatchback-good, reliability-good, power-good, toyota-yucky. Sorry I just dislike Toyota's for some reason. I can't see myself ever getting a Toyota.

^^ i don't blame you, nothing "fun" has come from toyota since the early 90's (70's through the 80's being my favorite model years)
however, i think that even a Matrix on coilovers and sticky tires could be fun.

Get an EM2 Civic. You can probably snag one with less than 75K miles for $7-8K. I sold my 2002 4 Door w/ 81K miles for $8000 last April. Lower it, get some rims and sticky tires and you have yourself a fun little reliable car. You're getting a manual right? What better car to learn on? If you get into an accident, guess what? Everybody has a Civic and parts can be found nearly everywhere.
Here was mine

2 seats = Too little. I am going to be the driver for my friends so I need at least 4 seats. :/
GRRRRRR. This is an annoying search. I thought this was gonna be easier. HEY! What about a Mazda 3 (hatchback)? Are those any good? Or the Mazda Protoge5? I know those are cheap.
