Buy a 89 miata and put a roll bar in it. Cheap, reliable, fun as hell to drive. Yeah I know. Boo the guy who mentions the miata.

Same here. Just finding the right one is hard. As I was saying, does anyone know anything regarding reliability when it comes to Mazda's (i.e. Mazda 3 or Protoge5)?

Try looking for an 02+ Civic Si. Mazda 3's are okay, but those seem more wagon like than sporty hatchback, that is unless you get the Mazdaspeed Turbo one, which probably won't be the case. OMG check out this Mazda 3 with RX-8 wheels. So hot!

2008.5 Mazda3 Hatch Metro Gray, Manual LIKE NEW w/9800 - $14595 $15K a little out of your price range.

Here's a nice Civic hatch for $4800. Si motor, rear disc conversion (?)
1997 honda civic hatchback full SI-R conversion EK

Here's a 2002 Civic Si, although the asking price seem a little high to me considering the mileage.
2002 HONDA CIVIC SI 113000 MILES

I didn't read the replies but this is an easy question... hand down no question about it a brand new base Versa, they were just advertising them for under 10K, plus you get better financing on new cars then used, plus full warranty, etc.

take it from me, a licensed automotive tech, purchase a used/new corolla! I've been a mechanic for 10 years, I've NEVER seen a corolla get towed in! The head technician at my shop has been in the business for over 20 years and has only seen 1 corolla get towed in. (because of a flat)

GET A COROLLA!!!

why buy a built up car though? That ae86 has been around a while too that kennef posted up and is definitely worth the money but it'd be no fun considering most everything but a cage has been done...guess you could take the 20v out on rock an sr20 or an rb26 :D or be like me n 13b swap.

Wagon and Hatchback are the same in my mind. It does look hot with RX-8 wheels. As for the one for sale that you have posted up, anything under 40,000 miles is fine, and I'm sure that there are ones out there for cheaper. I think that this (or the Honda Fit, if I can find one for cheap) is going to be the one.

It may be my first car, but it is supposed to last me until the time comes where I can buy my own car.

yea i agree with solbrothers don't buy something really nice for your first car....in hs people have no respect for other peoples shit i know that because people have parked up against my car literally touching the front bumper, they have been 1/2 an inch away from my mirror, so close I couldn't even get to my door and i am crazy skinny, and i have gotten my car t.p.ed, all of this happened with my Avenger....i guess that's what happens when all your friends are idiots :( (and this has happened to every single one of my friends) my tip, buy an ef, eg hatch or a dc2

My school is kinda strict and very small, so only kids with a 3.0 GPA can park in the school; all the others have to find their own spot somewhere else. As far as finding a ef, eg, or dc2, its just finding the right trade off of condition and milage (sorry but my dad isn't going to have me driving in a car with 150,000 miles unless I did that). I wouldn't mind having one of those, especially a clean eg, its just finding one that is the real trouble.
