Lol toyota
so it looks like toyota, at least in japan, will keep selling a stripped down prev-gen prius to compete with the insight better.
Toyota Will Keep Selling Old Prius
seem like a last ditch effort imo.

Toyota's Losses Reflect Troubles Across the Global Economy | Online NewsHour | December 24, 2008 | PBS
The Insight & other cheaper non-hybrid econoboxes (Fit, Yaris, domestics) should outsell the Prius. Especially with the economy in the crapper. I'd like to test drive the Insight when it arrives but don't think the better F.E. will be enough to outweigh the greater driving fun, sportier styling & "nice car, man!" responses from kids my '09 Fit has & gets.
Last Friday 2 teenage gangstas in an early 90's Mustang GT convertible slowed down on the highway & pulled even with me... They checked the car out, nodding & grinning.. I return with a "sup?" nod, mouthing "Brand New!!" as I still have dealer plates. They threw up some dap/gang sign & 5.0'ed away. I don't think they would have done this for a Prius driver lol.

its a blatant attempt to try and undercut the insight. i kinda don't blame them, because the insight walks all over the old prius, and i'm sure the new one wont be that great once you start analyzing cost.
maybe this is just a preview of how much the new prius will cost?
it makes them seem desperate. thats what happens when the company who REALLY started the hybrid buisness gets back to its roots...those who copied fail.
