the fit killer?
Honda Insight Specifications - Official Honda Web Site
2010 honda insight
41mpg could start at $18,000. :drool

Well it doesn't have magic seats and it probably won't be a fun canyon/curve handler like the Fits (GD, GE regardless)
I can hit 40 mpgs on the highway without too much effort too. So, hmph to the insight.

its true. im very bias toward them. they are just not my cup of tea, but i wont hate you for liking them.

it's max torque from 1000 rpm vs the 4800rpm of the fit...it does weigh 100 lbs more though. can't wait to see 1/4 mile times of both.

looks NOTHING like the new prius! I saw the pix and it's fugly!
Front end definitely looks like a yaris stretched out. REar end looks identical to the one we have here except it's stretched as well.

Look closer at the photos and specs.
Honda said it wouldn't be based on the fit... LOL!
Is that a second set of plugs I see? That sucker is a 1.3L i-DSi L13! It just has a flat electric motor on the tranny end.
The suspension is the same type as the fit. Macpherson front, torsion bar rear.
I'd bet that CVT has an awful lot in common with the 7spd currently offered on the GE. The CVT is the ONE option I wanted on mine that isn't offered USDM.
Biggest difference, looks like the gas tank is under the rear seat now. No Magic Seat.
All in all, I'd take it.
Oh look at that, it can cruise at 1900 rpm at 60 mph. I'm sold. (.52 ratio, 4.20 FD, 175/65-15 tires)

from autobloggreen...
"We recently got the opportunity to drive the new Honda Insight through the gently rolling hills just north of Phoenix, AZ, and managed to score 63.4 mile per gallon on one particular efficiency run. That's impressive, and it's also much higher than the Insight's official EPA rating of 40-city and 43-highway. In fact, even the older Civic Hybrid scores better under the EPA's testing procedure, leading many to wonder what's up. Isn't the IMA drivetrain for the Insight the latest and greatest? As a matter of fact, it is, and Honda believes that real-world mileage will be much better than the official ratings."

Give em a couple years the shake out whatever new model bugs that come up and I might consider it.
Going to be hard to out do the utility of the magic seats though. The highway miles, meh, I get 39-40 now when I drive to Vegas or Colorado.
They city mpg of 40 though is a little tempting. City right now I get about 29-30ish.
Looks...meh...If I get one it wont be for looks anyway. But I do think it looks better than the Toyota Prius.

i'm confused....in what sense is this a fit killer? mpg wise? well ok then, its obvious that it is!
as far as driving goes, edmunds says that while it doesn't have a ton of grip (tires) it is very composed, decent on a back road, and its worlds more involving than a prius. for those of you (well, most in this thread seem to not know a thing about the car), its actually built on the ge's platform, or a derivative of it.
i actually like it, it would make a sweet daily driver (its as fast as an a/t fit to begin with, but i wouldn't buy one unless i knew i had an old civic hatch being built back home) and it still has a good amount of space.
on another note: stop saying this looks like a prius. the PRIUS looks LIKE a HONDA. anyone remember what we said when the prius came out in 03? dan edmunds pointed it out in his review...everyone called it a 4 door insight (which was here BEFORE the prius) or a 4 door crx.
toyota copied honda. the same guy who designed the crx hf worked on this. the insight looks like a honda.
