i was thinking about getting one but still not sure if i'd like the AT in boring straight roads of IL... im probably going to take the 370Z 6MT though. :p you're lucky you live in a mountainous area.

 

The Mines GTR is a great one for a tuned GTR.

But there are many tuners doing a great job with pushing the HP limits up higher and higher (Haltech ECU)-

The AT on the GTR works well if you are using it for daily driving. I have very heavy traffic everyday so driving the MINI with manual gets old fast.
For weekend driving sometimes you want to take it easy and just cruise so AT is fine. If you want to short shift with the paddles in MT in the GTR it's fine and works faster than you can possibly shift using a normal MT.

Like the MINI I enjoy doing both performance driving or economy driving on demand since I use both for driving events and for normal street use.
Both get about 6 to 11 mpg during driving events, the MINI gets up to about 28 mpg (200 WHP) while the GTR gets about 20-22 mpg in mixed daily driving without trying too hard. Many owners report lower numbers but I think they are driving much faster than I.

The 370Z with MT is great. A good choice but only 2 seats and about $40K with the right options in my area. Also the dealers don't keep them in stock so they are hard to see in person. Although you can just buy the base version then upgrade the exhaust, suspension, wheels, etc.

A word about this thread- the pictures here are excellent. The Spec V with Purple color (costs $6000K extra) is really really nice in person, not like any other color out there.

Nissan claims the SpecV is meant as a faster street version of the GTR but not a full on performance track version- that is to come.

Shortly after I saw the GTR in the Ginza Showroom, Nissan has since packed it up and moved it to Yokohama where it will open in about August 2009. In the Ginza showroom I could have test driven a few of the cars like the Fairlady Z (370Z), Skyline 370GT (G37 2 and 4 door) and others but not the GTR. You use an international drivers license and you get 30 min to drive on the Ginza streets by yourself, right hand driver and manual transmission for some. I didn't do it because my wife forgot my international license at home (I got one for the trip). But with the traffic being heavy I don't know that it would be much fun not to mention getting loss in Tokyo.

MINI-Fit- thanks for you insite about your GT-R and the 370Z. im only going to be using the 370Z (if i get one... also want to check out the next-gen BMW Z roadster) as my hobby car so 2 seater is fine.

in fact, i have never had passengers in the back seat of my G. :D hahaha. one time my son sat in the back of my MCS but that was over 3yrs ago. lol it's dad's personal space away from home away from work away from headaches. :)

nissan claims that the brakes on the specV are considered the best brakes on a production car ever and the best you can buy compared to the aftermarket offerings.

Not bad. O, on another note, nissan has reprogrammed the LC on all upcoming gt-r's and for those already with a gt-r can go and get the reflash free of charge. The thing that people forget is that before the gt-r most if not all the the cars that had a LC program where 2wd (lambo excluded). This means that the tires would still be the weak link as the tires broke traction as the car is moving from a standstill. However, awd cars like the gt-r, evo, wrx, etc. have 2x grip, this means that the tires are less likely to break traction and that means something has to give, that usually means transfer cases and transmissions.

The gt-r suffers from this especially when the drivers are beating up the trans all day. What separates the gt-r from the more powerful lambo awd cars is that the lambo is set a a 40/60 torque split, that means that the front wheels aren't getting as much power and causes less stress on the transfer cases and transmission. the gt-r is 50/50, equal power sent to both ends, this equals more stress and more to go wrong.

And for those still dead set on critisizing the transmission, a few shops have found a cheap solution to the transmission problem by way of stronger cryo treated and forged gears. (cheaper at least that buying a new transmission)
