2009 fit vs Ford fiesta (unreleased)
Measure For Measure: 2009 Honda Fit vs. 2010 Ford Fiesta - Auto News - Motor Trend
I think on paper and the photos, it appears the fiesta is better. But some things that you love about the fit that can't be described by photos and text is the feel, the ride, the handling, the smooth shifting, the smooth acceleration, etc.
I think the fit will win in these categories when the two are compared.

Not to mention those are not production pics of the Fiesta... It will look considerably different when they redesign it and bring it to these shores...
on a side note... IMO the new fit is nowhere near as good looking as the current model... anyone else feeling the same?

"Goggle-eyed"? I resemble that remark! How bout "big-nosed" to describe the new one? ;)
This guy seems biased against Honda for some reason. Other than that, interesting comparison. Though on a side note, the Fiesta interior is a little too new-agey for for my tastes. Does look like a nice car, though.

Maybe the "than any small Honda" part isn't true if you're going to throw the Type R out there, but I think the author is referring to the basic-run European Fords (e.g. Puma, Mondeo) being generally better than the basic-run Honda counterparts in those categories. I happen to agree with him.

they are bitching about how stiff it was compared to how well it handled, And the (FD2)type R is SUPER stiff. The fit for one wasnt that stiff and two they said it will most likely be more engaging to drive?! The current fit has a faster lane change speed then the ferrari 599 and corvette z06, yea thats no fun at all. This is a super biased article about a hypothetical car that hasnt even been seen yet

Please keep in mind this is one man's (Angus MacKenzie) opinion and opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. I certainly wouldn't take to heart anything this guy has to say. Personally, I like the look of both cars but very much like the new '09 Fit way more. It's a no-brainer...Honda is king of small cars and the new Fit will be a huge success for Honda. I recently read somewhere that when the new redesigned Fit went on sale in Japan in late October 2007 Honda received orders of 22,000 right off the bat. Honda had only projected sales of 12,000 the first month. The new Fit won Japan Car of the Year and the Fit was the best selling car in Japan last year toppling the Corolla for the second time since the Fit debuted in 2001.

This is what I understand the production Fiesta will look like when it goes sale over here later this year, although those large wheels will almost certainly be optional extras:
At least it looks a lot better then the current Fiesta (2006 model shown below...look closely at those headlights...look familar?)::rotfl:
I had one of these back in 2005 when the Jazz was in for accident repairs. Yes, the handling and ride were slightly better, but the engine and transmission are just not in the same league. And as for interior quailty? Sorry, Ford Europe are still not there, although at least the new one looks a lot better.
The new one will attract more younger buyers, something which the current Fiesta (introduced in 2002....same time as the Jazz....go figure) didnt do. I'm certain the stodgy styling is why buyers prefer the Vauxhall Corsa and French cars. Ford like to give with one hand and take with another, hence why the often drive the best in class but fall back on qualiy, space or styling. Of course, Ford have such a grip on the market over here that their cars sell extremely well even when they are complete rubbish (89-95 Fiesta, '90s Escort)
I still think Ford should drop the Fiesta name. 'Fiesta' reminds of the car my friend at college had - a 1982 950cc Fiesta, complete heap of junk.

I've heard something like this before and I haven't been able to find any articles related to it or anything.

Fiesta
I had an original 1978 Ford Fiesta S. I loved the way it handled and it was fun to drive. I traded it in for a Honda Civic Si in 1986. The Civic did everything the Fiesta did, but did it sooooo much better! The Civic was such a better car....lasted me 13 years and 193,000 miles. The Fiesta had 110,000 on it when I traded it in, and it was almost worthless and at the end of it's life. OK, 30 years later, and I don't think anything has changed. The longevity just isn't there for Ford. Long after the Fiesta is dead, the Fit will still be going.

Yes, I'm with you. I don't really like the looks of the new 2009 Fit, but I will reserve final judgment until I see on in person when they are released this fall. Based on the crap ford has recently been selling (i.e. the new Focus) the new Fiesta will likely be a watered down, less appealing version of what is probably a great car in Europe.

You hit the nail on the head... Regardless of what they promise... Ford never delivers.
This is especially true when they bring European cars over from europe.
