first time trying rolling shots

you are WAY to close to him. you need at least a lane in between you two. looks like the shutter speed was pretty fast. you can see detail in the background. the shutter should stay open long enough to blur the background and wheels, but not the car. smooth roads and a steady photographer are a must.

Are you the driver and the shooter?
You should have a driver and hang out the window taking the pics.
Id like to test rolling shots out. I plan on taking them out the rear hatch of the Fit
The pics dont look bad. Need more backround blurr. The wheels look good.

yeah next time i will do that. it's so not safe. (my friend was holding the wheel though.. but still). yeah definitely you should do it!!
yeah but thanks. yeah i need to slower down the shutter speed next time. those are his stock base rims btw.. he just painted them white.
thanks man. yeah i was driving.
it should be better next time.

Not bad at all for first time. Usually you can get a moving shot and still get the car in good focus around 1/30th of a second don't know If I would go to much lower without a tripod.

looking good but i would try to start at a slower speed in a parking lot or something just playing with the settings then as you get more comfortable up the speed of travel a little ... that is my $.02

These look pretty good, I don't know if I'd slow down the shutter by much, but I would probably adjust the aperture to give the shot less depth of field so you end up with a bit of an out of focus background, with the subject still in sharp focus. This would give it a real feeling of speed even if you're only doing 30mph or so.
And definitely have someone else drive (not to beat a dead horse or anything.)

If you have another lens with a lower apeture.. try switching it out.. usually the wide lens is higher then 3 i would think, is it the 10-22 canon?.. the posts above are right.. lower apeture and lower shudder speed.. try using a polarizing filter to or maybe on a cloudy day.. 40d is good camera.. but probably not the best lens choice for this situation.. if you got it it's worth studying up on it..
