This is $10K more than the USDM Mugen Civic Si, but it's a far better deal, despite the price.
honestly you may not be getting much more than a mugen si, but i would still sell a kidney to get this car. its just so damn pretty.

I take it you haven't read the specs between them?

Mugen Si = Si with a body kit, exhaust, HFP suspension (more or less) and 18" wheels

Mugen Civic RR = Type R (already a better start), HID projector headlights, mildly built engine, Honda Access suspension (more or less), 18" wheels, Carbon Recaro buckets, Carbon front bumper, vented aluminum hood, Mugen Tachometer, rear foglight

And for good measure:

Mugen Civic RR Experimental Spec = Mugen Civic RR (an even better start), built and bored engine 2.2L 260ps engine, titanium catback exhaust, i-TCMS, carbon interior, carbon roof x-brace, carbon fenders, 6 piston calipers (f), 2 piston calipers (r), Mugen-spec suspension, 6 speed sequential gear box...the list keeps going. Doesn't get much more hardcore than this.

Experimental Spec:

Sell your kidney and you'd wind up with a far better car than the Mugen Si. lol Actually, we probably really WOULD have to sell a kidney for the Exp. Spec. lmao

You didn't really hit a sore spot, but I really and truly do sincerely apologize. It's been a really crappy week. I thought 3 of my cars were stolen in Miami, where they weren't even supposed to be flown to and hadn't heard from my boss since Sunday. I thought something might've happened to him down there, but he called this morning and let me know the cars were safe and that he was okay. It's a really long convoluted story how they ended u down there, but I'm also waiting on two Fits to be delivered. That too has taken over a week mainly because somebody said they left the factory when they in fact did NOT leave the factory. *sigh* I need a drink. But I don't drink. Maybe some pineapple ice cream. Mmm....

So again, my apologies, good sir.

Back on topic. :)

totally, totally off topic, but i want to do this publicly:

so sorry to hear that man! i would not be a happy camper either! Apology totally accepted! :)

and yeah, pineapple icecream is phenomenal.

to swing er back on topic, i would love the mugen rr here, but i think unless folks were looking for a hardcore track car, at the price they'd have to sell it at, it could be difficult to get off the lots.

plus theres all those beautiful mugen parts that you wouldn't wanna mess up!

thats a good question. it must possess some decent torque too!

RDS, when you say it has a sequential transmission, is this a dsg audi/vw type tranny, or am i missing something?

does anybody know why honda doesnt ship the type R to the US...besides the fact that it would be really expensive to mass produce...the car itself would be sold like crazy...the ROI would be ridiculously high

I honestly am not entirely sure about the tranny, since I just read it in one of the press releases. But I'm pretty I believe it's a race sequential like the one used in JAS' Type-R rally car. Pull back on the lever to shift up. Push forward to shift down.

It essentially works like an automatic, but you still have to use the Clutch to go into first gear. Very fast shifts, but it's not as reliable as a manual. It does eliminate changing into the wrong gears though. You can't see the shift lever because the guys hand is on it. lol

I know it's just under 2700lbs, but I can't find an exact weight. The RR weighs 2733lbs though.

Then you don't know much about Mugen or the FD2. I'm not Mugen's biggest advocates but I respect what they can do with the proper chassis. The RR ran 1:06:68 at Tsukuba. The list for stock production cars is as follows:

As of December 2006:

Nismo Skyline GT-R Z Tune 1:01.150
Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale 1:02.440
Lamborghini Gallardo 1:03.605
Honda NSX-R 1:03.920
McLaren F1 1:04.620
Porsche 997 Turbo 1:04.730
Lamborghini Murcielago 1:04.760
Nismo Skyline GT-R Z-Tune (diff day diff driver) 1:05.100
Mitsubishi Evolution IX RS 1:05.528
Porsche 997 Carrera 4 1:05.980
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 1:06.020
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX 1:06.060
Honda NA1 NSX-R 1:06.198
Nismo Skyline GT-R S Tune (340 bhp) 1:06.232
Ferrari F40 1:06.460
Subaru WRX STI SPEC-C (2006) 1:06.651
Honda NA1 NSX-R (same race as F40) 1:06.800
BMW M5 1:06.560
Mugen Civic RR 1:06.680
Subaru STI S204 1:06.800
BMW M6 1:07.434
Nismo 350Z S Version 1:08.110
BMW M3 1:08.200
Audi RS4 1:08.368
Toyota Supra Euro Version (330bhp) 1:08.460
Mazda RX-7 1:08.700
Mazda RX-8 A Spec 1:09.430
Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo 1:10.700

Look at the "as new" costs of all of these vehicles and consider the fact that the Mugen RR is STILL fwd AND Tsukuba is a high speed course. This car is one helluva bargain and it's not even at it's performance peak. The only vehicle faster that's cheaper is the Evo RS. Then it's the STI Spec-C, followed by the Z06 and then the M5. After that you're pushing beyond the $120,000 mark. $40K < $125K. I'd say that's might impressive.

excellent points. i think the problem with a car like this in america though, is that most people would look at it and just shrug it off as a dressed up civic. and the price tag would be so high that most people would expect more than just track-worthiness, if they are even looking at that at all. and i dunno, but aside from honda collectors, not many will be willing to pay that price. if i could, i would, but i can't and honda figures thats the case for most people.

Lemme put it another way:

The most expensive car on that list--I believe the Murci--costs $313,000.00 (2005 base model). The difference between the Murci's time and the Civic's time is 1.92 seconds. The Murci will cost you $163,020.00 per second versus, $20,833.00 per second for the Civic.

In other words, a Honda Civic is less than 2 seconds slower than a Lamborghini on a track that favors the Murci's V12, sport-oriented AWD, side mirrors that fold to improve aerodynamics, spoiler that raises at 70mph and side scoops that open automatically to improve cooling. What isn't clear is whether a 2005 model or 2006 model was used (the difference is the 05s 571hp 6.2L was replaced in 06 with a 632hp 6.5L). Either way, it's pretty safe to say it doesn't really matter. Still not impressed? lol

For the record, the Civic will also get you home without having to refuel. The Murci's EPA is 8city/13hwy.

Even if we were to receive a CTR, how stressful would it be to own one? I backed out of an ITR purchase two years ago because of theft.

I'm paranoid as hell about my Fit; I'd choke a b*tch if i walked up to a parking lot and found a new door ding or that somebody had side scraped it. I park waaaayyyy in the back to avoid having anyone park next to me, doing that with a CTR may increase the chances of theft.

If I could afford one, I would NEVER let it leave my sight. I wouldn't even be able to take it to meets or shows because I'd be too afraid of someone following me home and taking it while upstairs banging my GF. Long story short, door dings + side scrapes + theft = one stressed out CTR owner.

I have a few and have no issues. Then again, I live in a non-theft-friendly area :)

i think its impressive, but again, its only 2 seconds slower when driven by THAT particular driver on THAT particular track, just to put it into perspective. Still impressive though.

And even though the fuel economy would no doubt be better than the murci, i'm prettty sure that at that rate, it would be making the same mpg numbers as a big v-6 in a big heavy car. the current si is rated at 22/29 i belive, and thats driving normally. this car, with the added power, and the components that would encourage strong shifting, wouldn't be a fuel miser by any means.

but again, still better than the lambo. ;)

Bah, I give up...

If ya'll wanna see one, I'll be in D.C. this week at HIN and Boston next weekend for another HIN show, probably with some Honda folks in tow. Make sure to stop by :). I'll have a white Backyard Special FD2 and a red (yes, I said red) FD2 in the booth, as well as an R35 and the first boosted and widebodied 08 Accord coupe. And don't ask me how I got the GT-R. I don't even like it much truth be told.

At least, I hope to have them. Dayum pope slowin' things down for them to clear the airport inspection. :(

Just throwing in my two cents. JDM Type-R FTW.

I also liked the Euro Type-R, until I saw Jeremy Clarkson drive the previous model and the new one back to back a few weeks ago on Top Gear. Quite the review.

My favorite part of the review is actually him going on about the beeping to let you know your key is still in the ignition. I guess this is a new feature for the Brits, and he's right. Totally stupid, and these beeps and buzzers have been around for decades here (U.S.) "I know my key is in the ignition because I have just driven here." :)
