I detailed 2 x6's for bmw's promotional video and photos.

They are the size of an x5, with the back cut off at an angle.

In real life, they look like a mazda 3 that was stretched in photoshop and put on a truck chassis

They have some really cool design features

They only seat 4 people

 

I saw it at the autoshow... it held my interest for about 2 seconds. Clearly I am not the target audience of people who buy pseudo-SUVs with very little utility and is all about image. I'm actually a lot more excited about the Land Rover LRX, which is only a concept right now but has a high likelyhood of being manufactured. That is, if the following are kept in tact and/or fixed:

1) if they are able to keep the claimed 40mph with the turbo-diesel engine
2) if they are able to keep 90-95% of the visual cues that make it a sharp-looking vehicle
3) if they somehow maybe manage to make it reliable, instead of like what they make now. :rotfl:

 

That Land Rover LRX is only a 2dr, that will shorten up the wheelbase considerably. Kind of a neat concept.

I think you mean 40mpg... if it only goes 40mph I am out :D

I highly doubt the diesel will be that efficient, even the new Grand Cherokee CRD doesn't get anywhere close to that.

 

oops. yea i meant 40mpg heh.

Land Rover is looking for/need a way to stay relevant. So combine that with a new owner (Tata) I am optimistic that something interesting might emerge. My ideal hope would be that they outsource the engine and make use of the Subaru Turbo Diesel that's going to start showing up in a few years. That should address the reliability concerns a great deal. The electronics, though... they're on their own.

 

I know that Subaru snagged the Forester XT engine from their parent company, Fuji Industries. I think they have access to some good diesel engines as well they could grab from them as well.

 

Unless the Forester XT is somehow different in Canada... I'm pretty sure it's the same engine from the WRX. I know this because I really wanted to buy a Forester XT in early 2005, but couldn't find a used one and ended up buying a 2004 WRX wagon.

In the European (and maybe already in the Japanese market maybe? I'm not sure on this one) market, they are going to be introducing a turbo-diesel engine for the Legacy Outback. And, there are rumors that Toyota's recent acquisition in Fuji Industry from GM may result in some sort of technology sharing between the two companies. In either case, it can only be good news for us all :D

 

Yeah I looked at the Forester pretty closely as the runner up to the Fit. All the cargo room you need, tons of power and AWD and even a manual transmission was hard to pass up. In the end price and practicality won out, plus with lower insurance costs and better fuel mileage on a cheaper fuel grade have made it a better choice.

I know I have read somewhere they grabbed the engine... (maybe the turbo?) directly or jointly with Fuji Industries that made the engine different from the boxer engines found in other Subaru models.

lol, of course now that I am trying to find where I read it I am not having much luck :rolleyes:

every time i see a huge SUV like this, i think to myself, "self, sure it looks good, but they're getting 12 mpg right now, and i'm getting 33." so then i'm happy.
