1991 CRX si VS 2007 fit sport
Hi everyone, Dont have a fit, but am thinking of investing in one. I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with both these cars(91 CRX SI-2008 fit sport). How do they compare in handling, stock power, modded, just overall opinion. I owned a 91 CRX si and miss the character it had. Thanx

see anything familiar in my avatar? that poor thing was my 91 crx si. the first thing i thought when i drove my fit sport was that it was a four door crx updated with 2008 amenities standard. trust me, if you loved your crx you will fall in love all over again with a fit sport! you can't go wrong. best decision you'll ever make! too bad you're in NC, otherwise i'd swing by and let you test drive mine! that's how serious i am about it!

I have never owned a CRX but I always liked them and would drive them (friends whenever I could) I think that the fit feels similar to it but heavier and more solid. Far more safe thats for sure. There are alot of things that are not leaps and bounds better, but a modern improvement or equivalent that will hopefullly gather momentum and become a very large segment again or like other countries. As much as I got to throw the old CRX's around:) , and my friends throwing me around in them:rolleyes: I personally feel that the Fit has more confidence in its step and feels more like it is on rails than the CRX. As for the actuall numbers I dont know, but if you think about it, with how much heavier and packed the Fit is (as well as versitile and huge inside) thats impressive and it holds up to that standard exceedingly well.:)

i had an '88 CRX w/ an acura engine for a while, and i've got to say that while the fit isn't NEARLY as fast, it feels just as quick. they feel very similar to drive.
i miss my crx to pieces, but the fit was a fantastic replacement :)

hydroplaned changing lanes in the rain (it wasn't actually raining at the time but it had been pouring buckets all night as it happened on the way home from work at 7a) going about 60-70mph. no response from the steering. back end started to slowly come around passenger side, wheels grabbed a patch of dry asphault facing the median. hopped that (my car was slammed on tokico shocks with ground control adjustable coilovers and 16" ssr rims wrapped in bfgs) don't really remember that part tho, just remember seeing the lines in the road going perpindicular to me watching the tree tops from the canyon below coming up quick when i turned my head and out of the corner of my eye saw a 91 red acura legend with a lady driving... then witnesses woke me up told me i was bleeding out of my ears and to stay awake. assholes. blah blah blah picture worth 71485293 words.

Thanks for the info Mr. Jackson. Gives me an idea of" Baselines" for each. Looking forward to reading more on the fit SC kit. I remember meeting you when TMR magazine was pocket size, talking about SC'ing a 95si hatch.

But thanks anyway!

I have both a 91 CRX SiR and a 08 Fit Sport. The Sport is nice driver and cruiser but my SiR is bullet. The fit will just get over 100 mph while the SiR gets 140 at VIR. The SiR is a track car as I raced last century and the Sport is my daily driver. There is no comparison, just enjoyment of both.

I own a 90 CRX right now, and just test drove a Fit yesterday. The fit is more roomy, but IMO the CRX just feels better to sit in. I thought the CRX handles better, but my CRX is almost modified with better tires, brakes, suspension, etc. The CRX definitely feels faster, but the Fit is much smoother. I think the CRX has more performance potential right now, but thats because its been out for 20-some years. I can say I like the Fit better overall, since I am selling my CRX for a DP on the Fit :)

hey there.
I used the Texas voucher program to retire my 1990 CRX Si as a down payment for a 2008 Honda Fit Sport.
It was sorta sad. That CRX drove me through college. My uncle sold it to me, and I took it from 160K miles to 230Kmiles. It hardly ever had a problem minus a cheap radiator issue and a much-needed clutch replacement.
The CRX made me a Honda man FOR LIFE. I loved that little, speedy hatchback, and I can understand how it's such a cult phenom.
To carry on the spirit of that red CRX, I got a red Fit Sport.
The Fit is going to be an instant classic. Drummer in my band has got one. Now the other guitarist and his wife. My college buddies, this couple, just got one too. So I know 3 Fits aside from mine. The Fit is going to be a cult phenom for Honda too. (hence the fricken website fitfreak.net)
The CRX is much faster. Then again, this is judging manual versus paddle shifters. CRX had more aggression off the line and was way lighter. I also kinda dug how low you rode in a CRX.
Fit is smoother, and still has lots of speediness. Fit is roomier. No more asking that unlucky 3rd guy to lay down in the back of the CRX. Also, even though the fit is higher off the ground, the thing handles much better.
Time can only tell if the FIT will live up to the legend of the CRX. But so far its getting a whole lot of head turns like the CRX used to.
I didnt get the Fit hoping it would be a race car necessarily. I just believe that it can be as dependable (230k mi) as that CRX.

i owned an 89 CRX --
There is no comparison performance-wise. My CRX way out drove my fit. Though, your trade-offs make up for it, imho... here's a good breakdown for you (based on MY CRX, some options differ...)
CRX:
No Power Steering (superb when cornering... not so much for parallel parking)
Wire Driven Clutch (VERY heavy)
Manual Windows/Locks
Very Low seat height
1 Airbag
Coupe -- No back seat (i had the JDM back seat installed, but it was still quite small...)
1.6L 108 hp
2017 lbs
FIT:
Power windows/locks
Pneumatic clutch (very light)
Electronic Steering
Minivan-like Seat Height
6 Airbags
4 door... and then some
1.5L 109 hp
2471 lbs
They both have the good-ol' quick-click honda shifters we love so much, the added bonuses on the fit make it much more palatable in the city. I would say, aside from the ride height and the addition of some newer technologies, the fit is a wonderful alternative. Though it may not give you as much raw driving pleasure, it is still quite fun.

as far as aftermarket support goes, the crx wins, because engine swaps are so much easier (and cheap) and its been around longer than some of us have been alive.
as far as using it as a DD goes, the fit takes the cake.
handling wise, i think they are pretty even, and modded they both do great.
but i'd take the added stability over the crx anyday, despite its classicness.
and the interior is a no brainer. not to mention the safety.
