Not that cheap, but not that expensive either.
It's too overweight. I liked the generation of Miata before this current one. It was perfect. Just enough power to get you to 60 in a proper time, easy to slide, and light enough so you can be frisky in the corners. My friend's '03 Miata felt and drove perfectly.

If they do put this AE86 remake in the States, let's hope they pair up the 2.4L I4 from the scion with a STANDARD supercharger. 200+HP boosted :D

It's sad that Toyota can't make an engine as well as Honda. The Scions 2.4l supercharged barely get out 200 hp. Honda K series has been making 200+ since 2002. The new mugen civic being released in Japan this year is 240 hp not boosted. Toyota makes great trucks but they really need to improve their engines for small cars in general.

civic + RWD + s2000 2.2L I4 = 4 door s2000-esque screamer :D

that would definitely be a great comparo against this new AE86 if Toyota builds it right.

I am pretty sad also that Toyota has killed off all their small and sporty cars. The celica and mr2 were the last really fun and frisky type cars. The company has become too obsessed with higher volume and sales numbers to average customers that they've lost their focus to real performance. The discontinuation of the Supra, Celica, and MR2 spyder are definite testaments to that theory. That new V10 Lexus doesn't count since it's in such a high price range.

If they do put out this AE86, they'd get some of that credibility back. No.2 automaker in the world doesn't mean jack to me if you don't have a fun car in your lineup.

New reports out of Japan that Fuji Heavy Industries/Subaru will power this new car. A 2.0l or less boxer engine.

Their goal is 2 million yen, or $16.7 USD.

This is getting interesting.

Sounds like that may be a different car entirely. Which would be great seeing that in the 80's there were a few fun small cars produced by Toyota, maybe we'll see this again

TURBO 2.0L boxer + toyota quality.

if this happens, that would be awesome. i dunno if they'll give it a 4WD system either, since subie/fuji have been building those forever.

I thought the Hyundai coupe was supposed to be getting a twin-turbo V6 and the optional V8? I didn't think they were getting a 4 cyl? And where'd you hear it was going to be about $17K? Cuz for that price, I'd have one in my front yard in a minute. haha...

i don't know i own a subie and that would be really strange to hear a corolla with the infamous boxer rumble. what would be cool on the other hand would be a body that harkens to the actual hachi roku, RWD with LSD of course and....(prolly get mixed reviews for saying this) powered by 2JZ. what do ya'll think?

Not to mention it's an outdated hunk of iron (no offense to the 2JZ itself, but I'm speaking in comparison to modern engines...even the R18 Civic gets forged and cracked rods and an aluminum block). I won't even get into the FT-HS technology they showed this past year.

It's capable of making a shit ton of power and tq... i don't care how old and out of date it is lol.

The only motor that should be brought back and modernized for the new RWD toyota (again cant realy call it an Ae86) is the blacktop 4AGE:cool:

In that light of a car, the Scion/Camry 2.4L would do it some serious justice and be a great starting point for enthusiasts.

What?

The 4age is the motor that came in the Ae86 and the Black top is a re worked high revving version of the same motor that appeared int the ae111. true its only good for about 170hp but its perfect for the light chassis of the ae86.

again what don't i understand?
