the ep3 civic si has a k20 like the civic type R, rsx-s and base, and the new civic si, and some other hondas i think. but the engines are not identical, and the civic type R is not the same as a civic si, though they do share the same body if that's what you meant (like saying a rsx-s = jdm integra type r)

The EP3 civic SI has a K20A3. it is a 2.0L ivtec. it has detuned cams. I cant remember exactly I think it has exhaust vtec but no aggresive cam for intake. something like that. It only puts out 160 hp.

While the type R Integra has a K20A2 as does the RSX type S. They put out 200-220 hp.

The Civic SI with 225 wide tires can pull .98 Gs in a turn. I too test drove the Civic SI EP3 recently. A friend's brother is selling his. I want too impressed. Im tired of two door cars. Liek my Integra GSR. so much more power than the EP3. but I knew that going into it.

i thought the ep3 si still has vtec on the intake cam, but not the exhaust cam, so it still has the "performance vtec," unlike my old ford escort with it only on the exhaust cam =(

and don't the rsx-s and integra type r (DC5) have different k20s? the rsx-s has a k20A2 good for ~200hp while the ITR has a k20A with ~220hp

my bro's car is actually 2002, he changed the tail lights and also the lugs on his wheels to 5 to make it seem like it's the newer si........ he had other rims but since he changed the braking system he had to go back to the aluminum ones for now until he can get some other rims.....still a work in progress!

my fit looks much different from that pic now....i'll put the two cars together again and take updated pics!

clarification

1. The rims on your brothers car are very nice and i dunno what the poster who said they didn't 'match' is talking about.

2. ep3's have 5 lugs, so he didn't to do anytype of 'conversion'.

this is for everyone: jdm/oem being better is NOT an opinion. It IS better.:)

your brother needs to take that body kit OFF. Even if he had the performance to back it up, its still ricey regardless. Your fit as of that picture, is still nicer.

U.S.D.M ep3 and the U.S.D.M. rsx base had the k20a3, which has vtec on the intake cams but no the exhaust. Hence, it has a lower 6800 rpm redline, and is tuned more for midrange tq over high hp. Since most honda guys write off anything that isn't making 200hp per liter as rubbish, it didnt get the attention it deserved. The ep3 also came out at a time when a lot of idiots came on to the tuner scene because of movies like Fast and the furious, so the idea of honda putting out a hatch instead of a coupe was strange to them, being as how honda heritage wasn't really on the agenda of things to learn for most people. Then again you could also argue that because of the lack of performance, a lot of ricers would rice this out thinking that they had a bad ass honda.

other points to be critiziced where the lack of double wishbones in front and an increase in weight.(and a not so great steering feel.) It did have MUCH better seats than the one in the previous si though.

There is a type r version of this car that was available in the U.K. that had 200hp, a redline of 7900 rpms and 142lb of tq. (this was also used in the U.S. version of the rsx type s.)it was called the k20a2

There was also a special version sold only in japan exported from U.K. that had improved steering and an even stiffer chassis than what was offered in the U.K. (which even then was a huge step up from what we got here.) It had 212 hp and 149 lbs of torqe and an 8400 rpm redline. this was called the k20a and is also used in the new JDM type r, the accord euro r, and the dc5 type r integra.

As far as the fit vs. the ep3 goes:

obviously one is quicker. the factor 0-60 time for the ep3 was around 8 seconds, but even with the 16's they later equipped it with, a stock si takes longer to brake from 60-0, has a bit more grip than a fit, has a much more artificial steering feel, and simply can't match the fits' slalom numbers or body control.

Phew!:)

So here we go

K20a3 = 02 - 05 Civic Si & RSX Base
K20a2 = RSX Type-S & 02 - 02-05 Civic Type R
K20a = Integra Type R (JDM)
K20z1= RSX Type-S 05 -06
K20z3= Civic Si 06-Current

:D

BTW I have owned a 02 Si, a 04 RSX Type-S A-Spec, a 06 Si Coupe, a 07 Si door(current), and a 08 Fit(current). They are all great cars. They just serve different purposes. And yes your Bro's Civic is Rice. Lose the kit and get the Type-R kit or the HFP kit, then my thoughts might change:)
