Stick with canon if you want a point and shoot, but consider a used DSLR if you're interested in photography. You can score a used Nikon D40 for a couple hundred.

Honestly, coming from a person who loves photography and works with cameras alot, a dslr camera will cost a bit more, unless it is used. Before you buy the camera ask yourself these questions

- How often am I going to use this?
- What am I going to shoot?
- Do I want to be able to change lenses?
- What is the most I am willing to pay?

Choosing comes down to those questions. I shoot sports at my high school (well now former since I graduated this year woot!), so i used a Canon 40D (fast camera) with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. If you plan on shooting sports or objects that move quickly, then your gonna want a camera with a good fps. Also the lens is the 2nd most important part. Any white (for canon) lens is good. Costly, but it is an investment. If your looking for a simple point and shoot camera check out B&H. Here is the site

B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders

They have tons of stuff. We have different cameras for different situations. It is an expensive hobby when you really get into it, but you do it for the joy. If you give me a price range I can find you, maybe even sell you one of my cameras that we no longer use. And any other questions you have just let me know
