In my family if you don't believe in Santa you don't get any gifts from him.

I still believe

As for my kids, I'm still on the fence. I figured it out on my own around age 6 and it was no big deal, but my little brother found out at age 10 and seriously mourned losing the fat man. Not sure which way it'd go for my kids.

Hahaha same here. I figured it out on my own when I was 10 or so.

No kids yet for me, but if they come along they'll have a set of presents from Santa...but only if they believe

Santa. My parents went to great lengths to have me believe in him and the Tooth Fairy and I won't let that magic die.

My dad went as far as putting a hoof print on the box of our Atari 2600 and a note from Santa apologizing because the reindeer were restless.

Keep it alive as long as you can, all too soon it's gone and the magical anticipation of Christmas is gone forever. Besides, if you let the cat out of the bag, there won't be any cookies and milk left for you on Christmas night!

They are just being cheap and don't want to buy the extra gift.

I'm on the side that doesn't think lying to your kids is worth it over something so unimportant. Why not just tell them it's "make believe" and it is just as fun? Kids have good imaginations and they never really buy it anyway.

I did. So did my brother and tons of other kids at our school. Why wouldn't you believe it? Kids have imaginary friends, watch crazy cartoons with amazing things happening in them, what's the harm in believing in Santa?

I don't think there's harm. I just think that lying is lying, period. My parents always tried to tell me Santa was real and it didn't mess me up or anything. I just find it distasteful to be told a lie or to tell one, in general. I guess I'm not like most people?
