Oh yeah, I forgot to mention you can shoot .454 out of a .460! Didn't know if you knew that or not. Just thought i'd let you know.

Did they ever resolve the feeding and jamming issues with the P22?

Or am I thinking of a different gun?

Bear defense while hiking. .454 has been proven to put down a charging grizzly. Plus it chambers .45 Colt so I can take it to the range and not spend $2.50/ bullet.

Not against the rules, but the last gun thread got closed because all the left wing sissies took offense to pictures of firearms.

It's the P22. The problem comes from using non-jacketed rounds. As long as you use copper jacketed rounds you'll have no problems, I've put over 500 consecutive rounds down range with just one FTE.

Some people confuse the difficulty of tear down and reassembly of the PPK with the P22, but the P22 is very easy to strip and put back together.

Same problem with cost per round, plus Ruger doesn't make the Alaskan in .460, just .44 mag, .454, and used to make it in .480 but discontinued that model.

Gotcha on the P22. The Mk3 is pretty testy about its ammo too but I don't know that I've seen jacketed .22 before.

Its only a few dollars more (heh) for 500 rounds. Up here I pay about 32 for copper jacketed hollow point .22 as opposed to 29 for lead ball.

Did you know the .460 is a lot more powerful than the .454, and you can shoot .454 & .45 Colt out of the S&W .460 as well. Just thought I'd let you know. I really want a .460, just don't have an extra grand to spend.

So, you can still shoot your .45 Colt at the range, and pack some serious punch at a grizzly if needed. The research I've done shows the .460 has more energy and muzzle volocity as well...over every large caliber I was looking at. That would be 45 colt, .454, and .500.

I don't know if this link will work, but I'll try it.

http://www.federalpremium.com/produc...n_compare.aspx

Well crap, it did't work, but you can compare them at the federal site. Page 8 has the big ones. Just check the "compare" boxes and the click on compare. Some really good info in there.

What do you get out of the "Alaskan" version?

A 6 shot, 7 5/8" .454 revolver. The shortest in its caliber. I don't hunt and self defense isn't 50 yards away. Plus I like to keep my gear weight and bulk low since alot of my hikes are 3+ days in the back country of Alaska. The 'Alaskan' isn't much bigger than a service .357. Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan

They do have an alaskan kit...

But hey, if you still want the 454, it's cool. Everyone has their own tastes and opinions. I just want you to be informed. Did you compare the balistics on the differnt ammo?

Right on, but you have to remember that with an animal that weighs on average 1200 pounds, there is no 'stopping power', so the difference in energy doesn't really sell me on something twice as expensive. Plus all the survival stuff is kinda goofy.

I appreciate the beta though, hopefully someone else can use it when they decided to buy a large caliber revolver.

Smith & Wesson Model 460ES

Awesome. What unit are you with, and where in Iraq where you? Unless your still there, then N/M. I'm in 2/377th parachute field artillery in the 25th infantry. We spent 15 months from 06-08 in the Babylon area. I'm just a tow truck driver so I don't shoot much and only blow up engines on my rig. Here's me from our last rotation:

What kind of M4 does the military use? Is it one standard kind, or do they carry all kinds? Colt? DPMS? Bushmaster? I'm just curious. Mines a bushmaster. I dig it. I was on a list for a custom DPMS one, but after I waited 4 months, they kept pushing the ETA back until I finaly cancelled the order and bought my bushmaster a Gander Mountain. The ended up saying it was a 50 week wait for it. I was like WHAT? almost a year? Forget about it.

I just went pheasent hunting today. Didn't get anything. Ended up shoping for new guns too. My friend really wants a springfield 1911. I don't blame him. I've always wanted one. My .45 was cheap. Wish i spent the extra and got the 1911.
