what's up mikejet. i've decided on the 50D. Know of any places where I can get this camera for less than msrp? Money isn't tight but I would like to not pay full msrp if other people know where I can get things cheaper.
Reasons I decided on the 50D:
More sturdy body than the t1i.
I do not need the video function of the t1i b/c my fuji s20pro compact can take sufficient video for my needs.
Thanks

I picked up my 50D from Best Buy last week, put it on my store card for the interest free financing. The price is cheaper than B&H by a few hundred...
On another note I'm selling my 350D if anyone is interested or knows someone who is.

Excellent choice! I love my 50D. I got mine from Amazon because I'm a Prime member so I got overnight shipping from them. I buy a lot of my gear from there.
Currently at $940.95 on Amazon for Body Only. That's cheaper than I paid. The grip to me is worth it but it does add weight. I'd get the Body Only then find the EF-S 18-55mm IS used for about $100. That seems to be the going price for them. That's enough to get started.
When I first got the 50D I only had a 50mm 1.8(Nifty Fifty) and had lots of fun but you might want something a bit more versatile and for the money, the 18-55 is one of the best lens Canon makes.
You will want a flash eventually too. I don't know how I went for so long without it.

My current camera has given me some stunning photographs, but it's obvious that I need an upgrade. Do we have a photography thread? If not, I'll start one once I get home tonight.
Also - I've been asked by a few of my friends over the years to take photos of them, and it has always made me slightly nervous. Not because I think it would be an awkward situation so much, but because I'm afraid the photos won't come out as clear, focused, or precise as I'd hoped, thus ruining the experience.
Any tips?

I need a camera to bridge the gap between amateur photographer and amateur aspiring for professional quality.

For people, a flash helps ALOT unless you have the time to shoot in the right conditions. I've found that most of the time conditions are not good and the flash was needed. The pictures I've taken before and after having the flash are very different. Are you going to do formal portraits? You should consider getting this lens:
EF 85mm 1.8f
Also a tripod. I got this one from Amazon:
Amazon.com: Dolica AX620B100 62-Inch Proline Tripod and Ball Head: Electronics
Of course I am saving up for a Manfrotto
The 85 1.8 on a crop is probably the best for portraits.
