Awesome. To get a shot like that where you can tell its daytime but it still comes out somewhat dark is to use a very fast shutter speed right? And your lighting plays a part in that too im assuming. I think im starting to get it.

Yes that's true. The basic thinking behind it is this:

Okay, so the sky is very bright.
Humans,.. are not.
So we get a really bright light (the B800) to light up he human, so he is as bright as the sun.
So now they're both very bright.
THEN we set the camera to expose for the brightness, and now they match.

That's why in most photos the sky is just blown out and white, because it's just too bright.

I hoped that helped haha.

Also, this shot wasn't taken at that fast of a speed, just a small aperture.
It was f/14 1/200.
It was originally about f/11 1/500, but the light was too bright on him, so instead of moving the light/turning down the flash power, I just put it on f/14, then slowed the shutter speed.

Once you get the basic thought process down, it's all easy

Sweeet, I wanna try some pictures like that. I wonder if my SB600 at full power would be bright enough.

This was taken with my D40,
I had the Vivitar 285hv on the hotshoe, and I bounced it off the house from the left.

You'll be able to kill the ambient light. All you need to do is put it in M, put your flash on full power, then find what f/stop to use to make sure your subject is exposed, then change the shutter speed to expose the back ground

Also, that is my niece, and she really uses that camera!
Her dad (my brother) is an avid photographer

Ohhh, a D60,.. Never mind. You'll have to have nice flash power, because you can't go faster than 1/250

It could still maybe be done. I'll do some checking

Ooooohh, I don't think it's going to happen.

That shot was f/3.5 1/4000
Hahaahaha, that's way fast.

He could pull it off if he waited until later in the day probably, like early evening, but not into sunset yet. On a clear day, it'd still look pretty much the same, but the lower ambient would be more manageable.

Yes, that's true. Wait till "the golden hour" and it could definitely be done.

Also, while I was doing the shoot from above, he went to change, and my friend was like "Let me jump in for a few shots!"

Here's one of them haha

I actually kind of like that picture better, more energy and emotion, though the original works great for the kind of shoot it probably is.

And yeah, "the golden hour" Sounds like a radio show for old folks, but damn if the light ain't top notch.

Here's a shot I just finished editing tonight. It's more or less what came out of the camera, but cloning out all the bugs, dust, pollen, chips, etc. takes forever 'cause it's just a car at a show so it was driven there and not as clean like it would be for an actual shoot. Should make a nice poster though.

I could be wrong and I probably am, but if I put it in shutter priority mode it goes all the way up to 1/4000. It stays like that also if I put it into M. I just have to go to S mode to adjust it before I go into M. Then I go into A and adjust the aperture and it will stay in both of those settings in M mode.

Read the manual to figure out how to change shutter speed and aperture.
You can do it all from M hahaha.

Also, you camera will take the picture, but it will have the "black bars" on the sides of the image.

Nice shot Chikubi!!

Here's another from the shoot, I think it looks good paired like this:

Yep. Just try it, and it will leave faded black bars in your picture.

Ahh okay.
Well you should still try to take pictures outside with it. You just have to be close to the wall or whatever your bouncing off of, and bump up the f/stop!
