17-85 yuck..... Now I have aboslutely no idea about that lens in particular but a zoom lens that is 17mm to 85mm just doesn't do it for me. I am not a big fan of zoom lenses in the first place but that is a pretty wide low range lens. I have a 28-55mm sigma lens and i don't ever use it past 28mm. To me a low end lens should stay low end.
That is just my thoughts. But....... if you have a chance to try it out why not

Thanks for reply.....I know how feel about the zoom and all, that why I have a 75 to 300mm telephoto lens for that, but sometime I don't really like to drag my other lens with me, but just have one that could do almost everything for me b/c I shoot really wide photo like landscape shots to bear trying to catch a salmon about 150 ft away from me. Most the comment I have encounter are guy said this the worst lens even or the best lens even!!! From sample shots I have seen with lens, I would say 80% of the people that would look at that shot and say is beautiful but there 20% would say there some soft spot there and there are some barrel distortion here there..... But that why we have photo shop but I alway try to get the best shot and then see I need any adjustment with PS.....
I'm going to try out this lens again this week, before I leave on trip.....
Jr.-I have been checking out your posting already You know what i want...hahah

that program isnt a bad one. most times a refurbished product is better than a new product. all teh computers in our recording studio are refurbs from apple, and we've had zero problems/issues in the few years the studio has been operational

but for the price difference, especially with that program they are running, the xt is a steal.
all the xti has over the xt is a bigger LCD screen. if you think that is worth hundreds more, go for it. but the xt is a very capable camera. the prices on the cameras drop as new models come out.

Tyler- The Xt is Great DSLR, I'm currently using the XT and I can't be any happier with it, I have taken a lot beautiful shot with this DSLR. Here are some shot with the XT, I took from my vacation a few weeks ago.
Just give call but your camera must have some kind of problem to do the exchange......

The differance between the XT and the xti isnt a whole lot. xt is 8 mega pixel the xti is 10. The xti has bigger lcd but the xt had a monochrome small lcd in addtion to regular color lcd for camera setting were the xti all info is on the single larger color lcd.
There is a much bigger differance on the latest XSI camera though. It has a faster autofocus and much larger viewfinder. Go to like a Circuit City if you have one near buy and look through the viewfinder of both a XT XTI and XSI. The circuit city near me had all 3 on display. The XSI is a big improvement in viewfinder size.
Like i said, Not a huge differance between xt and xti though. If possable play with both at a store.

Thanks!
What dc9mm and Solbothers is right about the XT and XTI, I would recommend going for Xt and save some $$ and buy a nicer lens....

camera gear
I've been happy with the XT. I've had it for a month now and it's works great even with the 18-55mm lens that it came with. I touched up the first pic a tad bit. And of course I added a bit more to the second.

im a starting out photog saving and putting all my pennies together so i can open up a studio
now from my experience with cameras heres a little bit of insight:
i've had both the XT and XTI and i've liked the XT better because handles noise at high iso much better than the XTI. for both cameras you need a grip unless you are a woman or have very little hands these cameras are tiny but a grip makes them better. right now im looking to get an XT as my second body.
as far as lenses go it really depends on what you wanna shoot but for an all purpose lens i would recommend a sigma 17-70 f 2.8 4.5 $310 used to start with, or the canon ef 28 -135 is usm. on photography-on-the.net forums you can get it for about 280 shipped. ( i sold my copy there)
i will take a picture of it tonight but my current set up is
canon 40d
canon ef 17-40 f4 L (my all around lens)
canon ef 85 f1.8 usm (for portraits with nice bookeh)
canon ef 50 f1.8 II aka nifty fifty ( for group portraits or as a walkaround)
canon speedlite 580ex mk I w/ difuser (main on camera flash)
canon speedlite 430ex mk I w/difuser ( slave flash)
custom brakets pro M flash braket with oc-e3 cord
and tripods monopods umbrellas reflectors batteries etc..
my plans for future gear include:
pocket wizards
ef 70-200 f2.8 is usm
lights with lightstans
umbrellas and soft boxes
