Went to a cruise night here in town last night. Cars were all bunched up together, so worked on detail shots instead of the usual 3/4 shots. Here's some of my faves:

my flash came last night. it's amazing how much of a difference it makes indoors. I ended up getting a Vivitar df400mz. It supposedly has iTTL, although that works intermittently. It also swivels tilts and zooms, and works as an optical slave, all for $99

To sum it up, it works great manually, but the ttl function seems to overexpose if it's not pointed straight ahead.

The auto zoom is a little noisy, but isn't to bad. I usually set it manually so the motor doesn't constantly adjust.

just messing around:

Nikon D60 (less than 100 pics taken)
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC IF
Nikon Flash SB600
Quantaray 72mm filter
Extended 4 hour life battery + rapid charger
And a lowepro bag

FOR $750

Damn really? I thought I was getting a deal considering the D60 with the stock lens is almost 600. plus it comes with a better lens, a flash and a bag.

I take it back, I just looked into the Sigma lens, it's not crazy expensive but it seems to do good. IQ will be the same roughly at the 18-55 Nikkor but you get the longer ranger and the faster aperture at lower focal lengths. As long as the SB-600 isn't in terrible condition you're doing good. Though I wouldn't touch that battery if it isn't Nikon, heard too many bad stores about that.

I probably won't even use that battery. I don't need that much battery life as ill probably just be shooting my car mostly here and there.

Yeah unless you're doing paid gigs where you're taking pictures every few seconds all night you really don't need another battery. Currently my D90 lasts me at least a month or so between chargings.

Do you guys use certain programs to upload the pictures? Will I get the samw quality pictures seen in this thread by just uploading them directly into photobucket? :/

Chances are no, I post process most of mine using Adobe Lightroom 2. Occasionally you'll get something great right from the camera but generally you can always do some touching up to make it even better.

I have been using PB for few years now....The quality is still there but just resize down to 1MB rather then a 4 MB pictures.....so it just that if you try print a large print it may be pi

Like this shot of my is orig. 5MB down to 1MB and IQ is still awesome plus for those who have small screen will hate you for taking up so much space. LoL

That good deal.....I take the filter is a UV filter? and the extended 4 hour battery I would be careful too!

Interstate, congrats on the flash!!

And that seems like a pretty good deal for the D60+accessories.

Just note, if the Sigma lens doesn't have an autofocus motor built in the lens, you'll have to manually focus it with the D60.

Thought the D60 came with the autofocus in the body...? One of the reasons I chose it over the D40. Anyway to tell if the lens has that motor?

the d40 and d60 need AF-S (or AF-I) lenses to autofocus. if it's a sigma it should say HSM, i believe.

Nope, it doesn't have the AF motor in the body.
The lens will be AF-S if I recall correctly
