i just found out, although you guys probably already new about it, about the new nikon d5000 that is replacing the d60. The d5000 is expensive now, but good for me because it means d60s will hopefully be cheaper in a month or so when I get my camera!

I am thinking of preordering a d5000 and ditching the old d50. Also thinking about getting rid of my zoom lenses and picking up a fisheye and a standard lens. Also looking at getting a flash. Damn i should have never decided to go through my old photography stuff from school I am all sad now because I realize how much I miss going out and just getting lost taking pics and such. Makes me want to buy lots of stuff again lol....

How do you guys feel about refurbished items? B&H has a refurbished D40 kit for $330. They said it meets standard manufacturer requirements and has a 90 day warranty. Should I go for it?

Alright this is what I think I am going to be getting. A nikon D5000 once it comes out. ( probably pre order ) A nikkor 50mm f/1.4G. Then also thinking of getting a Wide angle but haven't found one I can afford after getting the new camera and the other lens lol....

ultra wide angle ftw! (if you can afford it)

Don't get anything less than at least an SB-600, then you can use the pop-up flash on the cam as a CLS commander and trigger the SB-600/800/900 as an off-camera slave. Off-camera flash always better than on-camera if at all possible. That would even allow you to use the pop-up for on-axis fill with the 600/800/900 as your key light. Fancy lighting on the cheap is always a good thing.

Just one question -- by getting the 50mm are you trying to get "normal" prime for the camera? I ask only because w/ the crop factor the 50 is more like a 75mm mild telephoto on the 5000 since it's a full-frame lens. Good for portraits and stuff, but you should check out the 35 1.8G DX if you're looking for just a fast normal prime.

Yeah I saw that after I posted that up. I will definitely check that out thanks for the suggestion. Also as far as flashes I am going in completely blind because I have no experience with them and have never even looked into one but thanks for the info I will check out the sb's 600/800/900. Those all work off camera????? That would definitely be a big bonus.
