Canon Rebel XT

My friend works at PureHotModels and wanted me to shoot with him at the 10th anniversary party for Import Tuner. All of our pictures got printed. My friend had a Canon 30D and I had my Rebel XT. It's a little tough to see the differences in quality between the two cameras when they are printed this small. I'm impressed on how well the XT handles.

thats awesome.

the only difference between a 30d and a 350d is that you can blow up the 30d pictures larger without getting pixelation

Adobe Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3. If you have a Mac then you could sub Aperture for Lightroom; I've used both and both are excellent, I just prefer Lightroom. Photoshop Elements is excellent as well if you don't want to fork out the cash for PS (CS4 now) plus it's more beginner friendly. That said, I do probably 90% of my editing in Lightroom and only pull things into PS when required for major work lately. I will also warn not to buy Nikon Capture NX2; probably best/most accurate converter for Nikon's .nef raw files, but very awkward interface and SLOOOOOW as molasses when applying adjustments. You can setup Lightroom to give nearly identical results with some tweaking, so no real reason for NX2 except in some rare instances (barrow a copy of NX2 if possible just to have, but don't buy it.)

For freeware, I like Irfanview IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide which is mainly a viewer, but allows some basic editing. It claims some lossless .jpg editing functions. The thumbnails function is nice for organizing and viewing folders.

Hey thanks i like the light room i did not think it would cost $300 though. But than i will always have it. I still am reading other forums on cameras and things. I need a new lens the 18-55 that came with my D40 is ok but i already know i want a 24-200 lens. And also i want a lens to take wider shots too not sure which one is for that. But like i said i am new at it and i like taking pics of cars and just things in general. I also need to save to get a external to start backing up all my pics. just in case.

Congrazt on the D40...hope to see your some of your works!
You will soon learn that the d40 is very limited to lens available on the market to be use on the d40.

Light room is great I love it. As for lens it depend do want a all round lens ( which mean less stuff to carry) or mid range like 24-70 or wide 11-16 or 70-200 and then you look at the Aperture (f-stop) is it a fast aperture like f2.8 all throughout the focal length or a f3.5-5.6 like your stock lens which change at different focal length.... you usually want to get a lens that is f2.8 at all focal length, then how sharp is the lens too. Depending on how much you are willing to spend I can throw all kind of lens to for you....if you want great copy lens from third party company, I would Sigma, Tokina, and tamron.

Also you want a good set of legs too!

For storing your photo I would recommend the western digital My Book...you can get them cheap from western digital these are recertified

Yeah I am in the same boat, I picked up a D60 but I am finding the lenses is too limited for what I want to do.

Although hard to choose.... I think of all the photos I have taken this is my favorite one

My camera. It's older but was good for its day. Since it still works, haven't had the desire to upgrade. FinePix S7000

a lot people will find it later that the stock lens is unless...and away switch it with something better...like a faster lens, sharper lens, well build lens, and something to fit there needs.

nice photo...right there is good example of min DOF. and look like you has polarizing filter too.

Well with me i am looking for more all around lens really. i want a wide one to take wide pics. so i guess a 11-16 is what i would want for that. Than i also want a lens that has better zoom than my 18-55. so i was thinking a 24-200 for that. And that was really it for me. And i want to make sure that they are good lens. So f2.8 that is the speed it takes the pic. Like say if i was trying to capture a drop of water. Thanks for the help but really thats all i want is a good wide lens and a good zoom lens, and i need to buy the photo editing soft wear

Are you looking at the Nikkor 18-200 F3.5-5.6? or the Sigma or Tamron? For UWL I would recommend go with something around 12-24mm b/c you will learn the 11-16 is very short focal length and not so much different in focal...I have play with the Toknia 11-16 and was not very happy with the focal range for what I shoot and only thing I like about it is the f2.8 but I mostly shoot landscape photography and I use f8 to f16 for best DOF and I also use a tripod too.... f2.8 is f stop or Aperture control the amount of light go through the element to the senors and the your DOF...for speed it is your shutter speed which control how long element can stay open....on the SLR you will see a Tv and Av...

Look at this link it really helpful

For software editing there a lot out...I would recommend lighthouse to do all the basic editing....

The 18-200mm is a good lens for a walk-around, but its pricey and the lens creep is bothersome when you're shooting up or down.
