I can see how saying you need to use the rule of thirds can add a little extra. I'll give you that.

My point is the last contest I did was on a photography forum and the 2st and second place actually got Amazon gift cards. The contest was "transit". Rules were a single picture, it had to be your own, and a due date... that's pretty much it.

This one is car forum with no prize and a ton more rules and standards.

I may have to bow out of this first one perhaps as well -- same reasons: too cold here, crappy weather, and I work during the day so no chance other than the weekend to shoot. I'll try, but it'll be hard. As for rules, these aren't particularly difficult other than requiring 3 shots -- it really should be up to 3 as that's more reasonable. EXIF data and such, that should stay as is b/c it establishes the time the pics are shot and not particularly difficult to include. Overall, these rules are doable; if you really want to see a set of rules that are stringent: Challenge Rules - DPChallenge

you are exactly right. by you shooting w/ a sony, you are going against the grain, against the norm. i didnt mean anything negative by my question, btw.

That's also a website called digital photography challenge.... this is Honda Fit forum with a handful of people that would be interested in this.

Did anyone get any good stuff for the holidays?

I ended up getting the Sony hand strap, omni bounce, and a 62mm Sony polarizing filter.

Well does it include going and buying it yourself! hahaha

If so, I pick up some ND filters and CPL Filters. And I'm awaiting for my 40D but probably I pick it up after I come back from South East Asia. in Feb.

Well, since we're including "self-gifting", I received a WP-DC19 underwater housing for my Canon SD950is point-'n-shoot.

While I don't expect to dive with it for a couple of months, it will be good on snowy days like today! It will also protect from the beach salt spray during my February Mexico trip.

Nice (430EX)!

I have spent a while deciding whether to pony-up for a 580EX II. I use a couple of 380EXs, for the 40D and G7.

Here is my 1999 vintage Olympus C-2020 Z digicam. It is renowned for it's sensitivity in the near-infrared spectrum. A "black" R72 filter blocks visible light.
A sample picture:

Ahh, I had one of those, or actually it was the 3mp model after that -- 3030 maybe? Took great pics, but was not fond of the optical viewfinder, so traded it in for a Nikon 880 which I kept for like 7 years.

If you want to see a real dinosaur, I have one of these floating around somewhere, mint condition. 1997, .33mp (yup, .33), touchscreen LCD w/ stylus entry for menus and such. I think it was the first or second digicam that Nikon ever made, a Coolpix 300, though it's more like a PDA than a camera. My cell phone blows it away; 12 years really changed things.

I want a DSLR........ I was torn between the Nikon D80 since some friends recommended it to me but after some research i'm starting to like the Canon xsi..... My other friend made a good point too which was "get a canon and we can share lens" lol I think I'm going to a ritz camera and play with them. I've been reading this thread for sometime but its still kind of a hard decision...Any suggestions? This will be my first DSLR so i wanna get a good starting camera and work with it until i FULLY understand and get a better camera.

EDIT: The links in my sig are from my friends Nikon D200. I don't know what kind of lens he used though hahahaha I'm a noob

Go with the Nikon D90. It's an upgraded version of the D80 WITH HD video capabilities. The photos are vivid and clear via the lens it comes with, not to mention it's not super huge (like the D2's or D3's) nor is it super small. The size is just right I guess

Aaaand "live view" doesn't hurt either I hate getting my left eye all blurry cuz my right eye is constantly in the eyepiece! Nikon has a sweet lens selection too... Just my .02!

funny thing is my friends got that camera too LMAO he JUST got it. I personally don't want to use their cameras because i do not want to break something or mess it up. PLUS they aren't around as much so i can't ask them to take some pictures thats why i want something not to serious YET until i get the hang of all this mumbo-jumbo DSLR stuff They try to explain to me but its like "wtf language are you talking in?" lol I'm more of a hands on person which makes no sense since i don't want to use their cameras
