It's just such a loaded question. How often do you hear people say "Why do you shoot with Cannon"? You don't because because its popular and accepted. It's like with the car, I get asked all the time "Why did you buy a Fit?" Typically questions like that are basically people who never bothered to look at all the options saying why didn't you just jump on bandwagon. (No offense to Solbrothers for asking or anyone else show shoots Cannon or Nikon, or anything else).

This is kind of an interesting topic. Why did everyone else go with the company they did?
I shoot Nikon because back in summer of 2007 when I was looking for a DSLR Nikon's D40 was shattering everyone else's offering for the money. I think I paid about $600 for it on sale. The Canon XT was still going for $850. Started investing in lenses and external flashes and the like and it's just so much easier to stick with what I'm used to. I tried my Aunt's XSi over the summer and was completely lost haha.

For me I have been shooting Nikon back then(film) b/c I grew with it and with my father, he shot everything with Nikon and so that how I learn photography with and from. Later I got my first digital camera, the Canon G2, I completely fell in love with it and slowly stop using my Nikon FE and that time my father was still shot with his Nikon film and digital... then after my G2, I brought the G5 ....and kept the G5 love all the functions and everything! When my Father got his D50 Nikon a few years back...I just wanted a DSLR to replace my old film and G5...So I was thinking should I go back to Nikon and stay with Canon! Then after doing research and playing around with the XT and XTI and the D50...I saw the clear winner was Canon b/c I was use too canon infaces and beautifully build lens and also wanted to piss my father off for join the dark side! hahaha
Now I'm proud father of the canon XT and canon 30d and soon to be the 40d or maybe the 5d mark II! and few lens from L series Lens from Canon.
Now the House is divided in half with my canon gears and my father Nikon gears which now D80 and d200 and S9 coolpix and all his Nikon lens....

In the old days though, I had a Pentax K1000 & Program Plus, a Ricoh KR-5 Super and XR-P, and a Nikon N8008. Don't see changing from Nikon anytime soon, and the D3 is my Christmas present for probably the next 5 years. Tried to talk the wife into a Nikkor 300 2.8, but . . .

wow, that's a horrible topic IMO, it would be fine for summer but not the dead middle of winter.
It's been about between 0 and low 20 degree temps lately and dark by 4 o'clock. I work which means always home after dark, except my day off... Monday, when everyone else is working. Plus with the temps so cold I don't want to walk around freezing my butt off to try to take pictures of people outside. Being that its so cold noone is here is looking very natural and comfortable.
And whats with all the rules?
Why is a requirement to use the rule of 3rds? It kinda takes away the creative ability if you tell them how the person has to be framed. Why do you HAVE to submit 3 pictures? I would say up to 3 max but not require it. The size, every picture I take gets resized to 800 on the long edge which is plenty big enough, I don't have any pictures that's large and I that may even be a bit big for the screen. I don't think all the Exif data should be required, make it optional. On my point and shoot I would have no idea how to get that info if I didn't have the exif viewer firefox application. My resizing program is set to remove exif data form the image file and its nothign something I actively keep track of.
With so many rules and requirements I think I'm not even gonna bother doing the challenges, I'll either wait for it to relax ALOT or I'll just stick to the challenges I do on other forums.

I plan to just sit the first one out because it is cold, snowy, wet, cold, cold, cold, ohh did I mention cold, and it starts to get dark around 3. I get out of work at 3:30 and usually the sun is already more than halfway set. So I guess for this round of challenges if you want a judge I will gladly judge
I don't mind the size because I shoot the pics to be 3008x2000 then I downsize so going down isn't an issue for me. As well as iso lens info etc.... because my dslr I can just pull it all up right on the camera with every pic.
As far as the rule of 3rds well it is just adding an extra element that you have to try and incorporate into the photo that way you are being challenged more. As far as the required 3 pictures i agree with darkstars there.
