Almost every new car has a plastic gas pedal.
He was probably trying to make the car go faster than it really does.

Fit has a plastic gas pedal. so do all VW's after 99, even the clutch pedal is plastic. only the brake pedal is steel.

I just hope Honda has better plastic in our Fits, lol
