Ringtone only teenagers can hear?
This is pretty cool. I saw it on a news segment about teenagers using these mosquito tones to receive messages while in class and the teachers could not hear it. Apparently it was originally designed by a company to get rid of teenagers loitering outside of store fronts by emitting this tone that only they could hear leaving adults unaffected. Now it has been turned around in their favor.
What is the Mosquito Ringtone?
The short version, A tone outside the audible range of hearing of most people over 30. This means that you can get phone calls and receive text messages in class or school without teachers hearing it. For more in-depth information on how the mosquito ringtone works, please see he Mosquito RingTone FAQ. For information on how to get the ringtone on to your phone, see our Mosquito Ringtone How To Guide.

instance, if you can hear the 17khz and the 18khz tone, use the 18khz - less people will be able to hear it.

haha i saw this a couple of years ago too. i had it on my phone but i felt kinda like it gave me headaches and it was pretty uncomfortable to listen to so i eventually changed it. a few of my friends (same age as me) couldn't hear the frequency though haha.

Fake? Right. I played this for my parents, girlfriend, and step-brother in the same room. Guess who couldn't hear it? Just my parents. My step-brother cringed though, so I played it a few more times to annoy him :-P

Whether or not snopes.com claims it as fake, I tested it myself and it absolutely works. I am 27 and I can hear from the top 17khz up. My girlfriend, who is 20, can hear every single one of them loud and clear. The whole concept makes absolute sense when I am reading it on paper, but it was such an oddity for her to hear something loud and clear while I could not. There is no way that I could use these though. They gave me the worst headache.
As for snopes.com, I couldn't find anything except for a thread on their forum's messageboard, which proves nothing to me.

hahaha! i'm 27 and could only hear from 16khz & up. guess i been up front for one too many concerts. it is a cool concept tho, still annoying as hell. sounds like when there's a tv on but no signal. shit bugs the fukc outta me. i can instantly tell when there's a tv on in the house with no input. absolutely hate it.

That is too funny. TVs left on without any input drive me nuts as well. People think I am strange because I always stop like my spidey sense if going off and say, "There is a TV on in here."
