House DIY forums

I bought a 'new' (built in 1971) house and am looking for some good forums for plumbing/HVAC/et-cetera. I've asked a few questions at diychatroom.com - but they are horrible at answering questions and often ignore questions... which sucks, since I help out a lot on the electrical forum (my specialty).

Does anyone have recommendations on forums for home improvement?

Thanks in advance.

FYI - I'm researching: putting on a new roof, new heat pump/condenser, and solutions for plumbing a washer with no existing drain.

I've found most of the chat rooms for home DIY to be a large waste of time for most things. Best advice I can give would be to go to the bookstore and purchase a home repair book, or even better a few books geared specifically toward the work you are wanting to do. I've found this to be the best reference and you always have the knowledge at hand to refer back to in case you forget something. This is how I learned about plumbing, tiling, electrical and drywall work.

I'm finding that to be true as well.

Thanks everyone!

go to home depot, lowes, whatever major store you have there and look for workshops. I learned how to tile, lay hardwood and laminate. I'm sure they have other workshops as well you just need to look around. good luck

Excellent. Thanks for that advice! I'm going to start putting their workshops on my calendar.

I usually go to popularmechanics.com or diynetwork.com for information. If I don't find anything there, then I go to lowes to see if they have any books on what I need.
