Angry Fit met it's match - gravel truck stones and it's tire gator!

When it rains it pours!!! I need to vent first! !@#$%^&*!!!!!
I was boxed in on the fwy and gravel truck blew a tire sending showers of gravel on my beloved Fit! Windshield got busted on two places big time! Tire gator took a bite on the bumper right where front license once was! I did not even wont to look at the hood. Rocks were hitting it just below the windshield too! Clear bra or regular bra would not make much difference at all! This stuff was so sharp, it would cut right through it!
To make things worst I was on a weekly conference call with half of my co-workers and bosses at the time. I held pain and my breath for 20 minutes until I hang up and screamed my lungs out as if somebody cut both of my legs and arms without anestetic!
My wife is handling the claim with insurance to ease my pain. Let's see how that goes! To make things worst, I gave my mother to drive the civic since we got rid of FX! CRX is not registered and I would need to switch half of the car to OEM specs to pass smog! I have an aful feeling I will end up with some kind of Ford Focus or Dodge Neon for a rental through my insurance!
Million ideas going through my head right now. They will re-paint the hood and bumper I am sure. Crap! I am even thinking about laying some carbon fiber cloth and resin over entire front end. It would be a lot cheaper too! Local carbon place has an autoclave and vacuum bags for molding.
I just do not like idea of just covering OEM parts in it.

Oh well, first things first. Insurance adjuster is yet to take a look.

I have no idea why this tread was moved to off topic section, but oh well......
I guess hood, bumper and windshield are not Fit related! LOL!
Please excuse my sarcasm, I am having a very, very bad day. I will be drowning my sorrow in a double shot espresso tonight at Hacienda Starbucks, since I really do not drink alcohol! Well, if we exclude 0.5% alcohol content in a non-alcoholic beer I drink maybe once or twice in a month! Purists will kill me!
Tool, I was on 680 South right off Bernal where I get off. My office is off Koll Center Pkwy. It was around 7am.
There is no worst feeling seeing all that stuff flying toward you. Sooo helpless!

That really sucks. If you gotta replace everything, maybe do a JDM front end conversion I think my windshield cracked within 100km!!! A small chip, and I mean the size of a pinhead on the black section of the windshield will almost guarantee a crack...

There is no way they will replace everything IMO. Only windshield. Bumper and hood are not cracked or carved to a point where they won't be able to strip them down, lightly fill in, primer and paint. I won't be crying after that license plate hole dumasses drilled in! Hey maybe aftermarket paint on the bumper holds better than crapy OEM one! LOL!
Real blow is loss of a FitFreak.net decal on the horizontal surface of the lower grill. LOL! Love those Illusive. I did something about that question I had for you and you said that you will look into it for the next time.
I will PM you tonight with some pics and info you might find useful. Afterall, decals are your baby! LOL! You are outstanding member. Bow!

You know whats funny? Aftermarket colour matched paint is probably better than the factory crap hahaha! You can spray on however many coats you want (hint on my surprise ) And holy crap, I was supposed to look into something? Mannnn I'm so behind it's crazy! Too much crap happening with my own Fit AND work...and I just checked my history, smaller ones for the windows...gotcha! I still haven't been able to get a hold of my supplier yet, he seems like hes out of town or something. Looks like I'll have to give him a call. Pics would be great, thanks!

On behalf of all the MR Fit freaks - please pause for a moment of silence. That is the start of a really bad day - you've taken one down. So sorry man- just keep the faith and know that the Fit is covered by insurance - is the truck that caused the damage going to pay up? Hope so - let us know how it progresses. Know you'll miss the Fit and yup when some nut hit my Ranger and ran they stuck me in a Dodge Neon - I hated that car! Luckily the repairs were done in one week and the Neon was returned to Enterprise to torment someone else. That is all my insurance would cover a Focus or a Neon! Insult to injury!

Too bad you were "boxed in", and not following the truck at a safe distance, you may have avoided some if not all of your damage.

Sorry to hear about your car Ivan. This must be a bad month for Bay Area MR Fits cause I just got in an accident. Anyhow, repair costs aren't that bad for this car. I'm estimating 800 with some hookups. we'll see...

That really sucks man. I hate the highway. Ever since I bought the Fit, I've been surfing the back two lane roads to try and keep away from the highway provided dings and dents.

Not to get off topic, but the center caps on the wheels look killer. Nice finishing touch.

Nooooooo! Bernardio, I am so sorry to hear that! Which area of the car got it?
Man, I though that my headache is just enough for us. You know what they say, trouble comes in three's. Dave (Manxman), do you hear that?! You are not as safe as you thought you are! LOL! Lock the car in the garage! Stay home, under the bed and watch for lightning from bright blue sky! LOL!
We must be getting cursed by all those SUV drivers. Afterall they are already pumping when we pull in to the gas station and they are still there when we leave! LOL!
My windshield just won't break! It has some spider web cracking around impact area, but that's about it! I am not in a rush to deal with repairs. As I said earlier, my mother is using our Civic and CRX is nowhere near passing for smog. LOL! AAA agent told us to fill out our claim report online. Great help!
Since my wife is dropping me off to work at 7am, we encounter those gravel trucks every morning! Bastards! With all that bad luck I am having lately (work, home, car,.....) I am buying lottery tickets. Got a mega and one number on Mega Millions last night! Won $3.00! Huurrrayyyy!
Thanks Crawly!
Joke aside, thank you everybody for sharing Bernardio's and my pain!

I hear you loud and clear about the SUVs! My nemesis was a Lexus RX300 with malfunctioning brake lights. Some dood in a bmwr cut him off and then, I thought to myself "wow, that SUV didn't even attempt to brake.. oh wait, NOOZZZ!!" I rear ended him and proceeded to follow him for a couple miles until I got the point he wasn't going to pull over. I scribbled his info on a napkin and parked the Fit to check the damage. My passenger side headlight was completely busted in a zillion peices, my passenger side fender was nicely crumpled and the front bumper face was torn near the headlight. It looked like buster in the lexus only had a scratch on his bumper. Tally for parts needed for my repair was ~500. I'll still have to pay to have the parts painted though. I could have bought wheels with the money!!

Anyhow, Good luck with your repairs and work Ivan. Maybe next month we'll get pay back! Heck, I just get my T1R tank covers from AJs in the mail! Pics installed on my banged up fit to follow! haha

TOOL, stay home! LOL!
Bernardio, are you planing on fixing it on your own, without going through insurance? You can certanly keep it "off the records" by doing it on your own, but lack of VIN number stickers will tell the tale. Also, there are gadgets that can measure thickness of paint. I have seen one the size of deck of cards in action. Unbeatable!
I kept my friends insurance rate spotless when he rolled of Decker Canyon off Mullholand in LA dozen years back. It was getting dark and HWY patrol officer kept asking us what is my friend licence plate and driver license number. I did not know. He told us to tell morning shift officer to make an official report when tow truck pulls the car out of the ravine. I just about covered my friend mother's mouth by hand next morning and told officer that report was done previous night. I even told him we went down into the ravine to get it, LOL! He still owes me for that one!
Listen, maybe there is the reason that BMW did not stop! Maybe you can track him and find out. Maybe you can make him caugh some cash out to keep it unreported? Worth a try for your troubles.
Let me know if you need any help wrenching.
Guys we need to get together one of these days and grab a bite. Families would be great too. We can even hook up with Dave (Manxman) if we head south.

Hey TOOL, Just be safe out there. No driving behind grave trucks and cars with out working brake lights!! LOL

I'm not going to worry about reporting it. My deductible is huge and I'm sure I can get the repairs done for less. I have all the parts ordered already and I pulled the old fender and bumper off already. If all goes as planned, the fit should be back on the road by the end of next week. About VINs, what kinda problems can I run into because of missing ones? First time I ever had to do something like this..

It becomes an issue when you are selling the car. Buyer will know that panel was repainted or replaced. They will lower the price down drastically or refuse to buy it. Stickers are impossible to remove. They will fall apart if you try to pull them. You might wont to save damaged parts to show them that there was no structural damage, or just show them the pictures. If they notice lack of stickers that is!
I just sold the FX35 and apparently they are hot in Russia if they are black on black or grey on black. Guy came with a gadget and noticed portion of the door repainted from a nice dent some asshole left while attempting to park next to me!
If your deductible is high then there is no choice though. Mine is just $100, so I will do it sometime next month.
