Go to this website http://www.openroadhonda.com/en/index.php?p=quote&s=main its for Open Road Honda in New Jersey. You can get an instant quote on the website for any Honda car. I got one for the Honda Fit for $15970.
You then take the Open Road Honda Quote with you when you go shopping. Try a dealer that has a Best Price Guarantee.
I went to another dealer with the printed quote and during negotiations for my Fit, they tried to bump up the price by $1000 dollars over MSRP. They quickly changed their minds once I showed them the quote from Open Road Honda and brought up their "Best Price Guarantee" and asked them for the $700 they offered if they didn't beat a quoted price.
HINT: Don’t let them know that you have the quote. That way you can catch them off-guard when they say they can’t go no lower. Negotiate the price as dealer can wiggle the price because of holdbacks. A holdback is a percentage of the price of a car, usually 2 or 3 percent, that is sent to the dealer by the manufacturer after the car is sold. In this way, the price of the car is artificially inflated. This means that the dealer can, if they want to, sell a car below invoice and not lose money. But dont mention it in a negotiation. You also must be willing to walk away from the deal and make that clear to the dealer. I walked out of a deal once and had a dealer chase my car for a block to tell me they accepted my offer.
