MSRP vs 1-2k Mark Up

MSRP vs 1-2k Mark Up
Why are we seeing some dealers advertising MSRP, while others are still jacking up the price ($1000-2500)?
Is this just a supply / demand issue whereas certain dealers got ahead of the curve and ordered cars back in Jan./Feb.?
I'm a bit surprised that Honda allows the price adjustments from dealer to dealer...
Wish I lived in SoCal so that I could buy from Chris...
Thanks to all who post,.. this is a helpful tool for learning..

they ask markup because there are people out there willing to pay them...
when no one is willing to pay the markup anymore, like on civic hybrids now, they will stop asking markup and start discounting them.
and dont be surprised honda not controlling what price cars are being sold at. only saturn controls pricing, so if you want a flat price, you can always get yourself a saturn.

Yes, people out there are willing...
Yes, people out there are willing to pay above MSRP...
There are those who purchased their Fit months ago, there are those who ordered their Fits @ MSRP and waited 3, 6, 9... weeks.
I was quite dilligent @ seeking MSRP @ multiple dealers in the Pacific Northwest.
I was offered MSRP on cars if I wanted to wait 3-5 weeks, and some of the cars coming in were not what I wanted.
The best offer I received was that I could have gotten the car I wanted @ 1k above MSRP (which could be applied to add ons, i.e. mats, cargo cover, etc.), IF I wanted to wait till the end of May.
My schedule is open now, but is not in 2 weeks.
I paid extra, as many others in my area have.
I got my Pilot last year @ 3k below MSRP (w/ upgrades included).
I bought my F350 Super Duty in 2001 @ 3.5k under MSRP.
I just didn't have the time or patience this time.
Good luck.. What did you pay? Are you in the Pac NW?

I'm in the Seattle area and paid $200 over, but they threw in the rubber floormats and cargo cover. Dealers in my area are (and were) asking 1.5-3k over MSRP or you had to pick 1.5k of accessories. Thankfully a buyer fell through and I was willing to be patient and haggle. I was sort of disgusted in myself for haggling to MSRP but atleast I am not driving a Yaris! I guess it takes patience.
From what I hear about Mini, the MSRP is just a joke. It's sort of hard for Honda to tell a dealer not to make as much as possible on a popular item.

I think everyone who wants one at MSRP can get one, provided they are really willing to wait. If you want it now you'll smell like it, and salespeople have highly sensitive noses for that. Do the mental work necessary to get the stink off before you walk in the dealership, and you'll be fine.

2006 vs 2007
Again, I think pricing in 2006 was a little more flexible, epecially when the dealers had yet to understand the appeal and desire we Fit owners have (& gas prices..).
--> Try now and see if you can get @ or below MSRP for a car in stock.
I was quoted prices of 19.9 and 20k for USED vehicles.,
It's supply and demand, i.e. capitalism, that is allowing this type of pricing.
Yes, the dealer knew that he had the exact vehicle I wanted (BOM, AT, Sport) and was clear @ what price they would sell. I did counter w/ an alternate offer which did allow for some concessions back to me.

$100 over invoice
I got my Sport Automatic at $100 over INVOICE. All I had to do was ask for it. And there weren't any hidden fees, just dest charge, tax, and tags. Of course, only the one dealer in my area did that. Even the one dealer who said "we'll beat any dealer's quote by $100" then said to me "oh, we can't beat THAT!"
But stupid me, I blew the amount I saved on a theft-protection plan, so if my Fit is stolen in the next 5 years, I get a brand new Fit for free. Someone come steal my car in 4 years.
