Post Vancouver, Dealership experiences/Where to Buy?

Hi Folks,

Looking at getting a Fit (also considering some other models), and I'm wondering what your experiences are with the various Honda dealerships around the Lower Mainland.

With the Fit, I imagine price is going to be pretty much the same from place to place, but I'm curious if one Honda dealership is any better than another.

Thanks!

also i do not recommend vancouver honda. i had bad experiences with them and so do my friends.
not helpful at all, not very knowlegeable about certain cars.
ie. i went there to get something fixed...couple hours later they call me and say it's fixed.
i head home...not even a block later i can clearly tell they did NOT fix the problem...
gave them a few more hours. same thing again...
3rd time they fixed it. finally
wasted over 5 hours of my day!

Price will be close no matter where you go, but work on getting things thrown in (I had floor mats, rear cargo mat, and mud flaps thrown in). Another thing you can bargain for is to get future accessories for your Fit at wholesale cost. Get the sales guy to introduce you to the parts guy and take it from there. I doubt you will ever get dealer cost, but wholesale cost is still better than nothing.

Also, before you buy, make sure they don't add anything to your invoice like extra theft deterent thing and stuff you didn't ask for. Read carefully before you sign. PDI and Freight should be the same everywhere, but check to make sure it is not higher than it is supposed to be. Make sure you know about all the promotions that are going on. I don't think there are any government incentives anymore, but check that out, too. Although, the sales guys are up to snuff with that type of info as it only helps them sell fuel efficient cars.

I personally had a bad experience with the dealership on SW marine by Oak St.

I did get excellent service from one of the reps on Kingsway Honda by 12th. I 4got the sales rep name now but he was a younger guy and was excellent 2 deal with.

Hey I work here at Carter Honda and I hope anyone who has been here has enjoyed their experience. I am new as well. I do give $100 Referal fee if anyone you know is looking for a new fit the 11's are here! I have a no BS policy and will strive to give the best price! even tho all Honda dealers get the vehicles from the same source.
cheers.

I too had bad experience with SW Marine Honda. When asking about car antenae was told to go buy one. When asking about their service department, they recommended going anywhere else but there. hmmmm?

Well, I've had this car since November, and some tool made an unsignalled lane change directly into my driver side today.

Can't even open the drivers door right now.

Hey, I'm OK, maybe some sore back, but I think it will be fine. Car was not so good, driver side door dead and new door skin for the back door. Other guy did not hit and run fortunately, he knew it was his fault and owned up.

So far I've had a pretty bad experience with Marv Jones Honda in Maple Ridge. They were pleasant enough, but would not BUDGE on $23,000 all-in for a brand new Fit Sport, Manual Transmission, floor mats and locking wheel nuts. This is $240 ABOVE MSRP. I found it a bit ridiculous they could not budge at all. They let me walk out the place with my offer, which I thought was reasonable. However, they called back, so hopefully they can redeem themselves.
Otherwise it's a big loss for them. I'm 27 and have a lot of car buying in my future. I will be married soon enough, probably have a few kids, and you'd think they'd want that future business when my wife needs a new car and possibly a new minivan.
Anyone have a similiar experience here? It seems car dealerships are slow to recognize that they are working with a new generation of consumers that have a really large voice, with social media and all.

Word of mouth is as valuable is ever but you're kidding yourself if you think that because Twitter exists that you shouldn't have to pay MSRP.

This city values imports over domestics and the Fit is the best rated urban sub-compact. Couple that with a shortage due to tsunami related disruptions and that it's the lowest-margin vehicle and it's no surprise that sticker price is the going rate.

If you want to save money there are a few good Sports out there:

2009 with 19,000kms: 2009 Honda Fit Sport 5-Speed Load Hatchback

2009 with 28,000kms: 2009 Honda Fit Sport

I saw a private sale go for <15K but I missed that so I think I'll be getting a LX.

Absolutely! It's up to the dealer. If he doesn't think my business is important, that is fine by me. My point is that I have a long future of buying cars, which to me, is more important than a few hundred dollars extra he/she might get out of me from this purchase. When a person has a good customer service experience, they usually tell one or two people. When someone has a bad customer service experience, they tell a helluva lot more! And with social media, that story spreads to a whole lot more people. Just because Twitter exists doesn't mean this dealer should go lower, but if he wants my business and the business of others, I do think that they need to strategize better, because they're selling to a different generation and you're kidding yourself if you think that car dealerships shouldn't.

There's a lot of Honda dealerships out there, and a lot of cars out there that are just as good, if not better than the Fit. It's also a terrible economy right now and I don't think a lot of people are buying new cars. Yes, it's highly rated, but for 23k? I dunno... I'm in no rush and if the dealer would rather wait for someone else to pay MSRP, that's great, but I won't.

Also, I've been scouring for used ones. I've looked at both of those cars and they're not great. White one wreaks of smoke and has burn marks in the back seat.

Awesome........ this thread is turning out to be a buy and sell thread. LOL

Since people are dropping names, I'll put in my two bits. I really like Surrey Honda. Service and parts department there are awesome. I've bought four vehicles from them over the years and not a single problem have I had. It's not close to where I live, but it is always worth the trip.

The sales department is nothing special, but like I said, their parts and service departments are second to none. Over the close to 40 years of driving and purchasing vehicles, I can safely say these guys are among the best I have had the pleasure of dealing with.

On my first vehicle purchase there, the salesguy (who's no longer there) and I worked out a deal that included special pricing on parts, accessories, and service. They honoured it with my other vehicles that I purchased from them. I have a good relationship with them and know most of the mechanics by name. I do most of the maintenance work myself on the cars I own and that's cool, as they know I am totally capable. I do, however, get them to do the recalls and warranty work.

So my terrible experience with Marv Jones Honda finally ended this weekend. After the Vice President, Michael Ringrose explained to me at the first meeting that they had a manual Fit in the colour I wanted at their sister dealership Performance Honda in Chilliwack, just waiting to be brought in. After haggling for an entire week, twice going all the way to the dealership and talking face to face. After they didn't even budge on the MSRP, and denied any extra incentives I requested. I ended up putting a deposit down anyway and they didn't even HAVE the car at their sister dealership, nor did they ever. They lied straight to my face and tried to cover it up until I put my deposit down and started asking questions like, "So, when can I pick the car up." "Uh, um, uh, actually, sir we don't actually have the car techinically."

I suppose I should have confirmed they had the car at the beginning, but I didn't think they'd actually lie to me about a car that they didn't have.

Terrible business strategy, terrible place to go for honest people. They wasted a whole bunch of my time, and I wouldn't even bother giving them a thought in the future, and I hope you guys don't either.

I had a fantastic experience at Jonker Honda in Langley.

This was the first time I dealt with a dealership, where it was zero pressure, and where they weren't trying to up-sell me on everything. When I said no, or wasn't interested in something, that was the end of it. I've NEVER had this at any other dealership. I'm sure some of it had to do with my salesperson, but everyone I dealt with always asked, and made sure I was happy with the way things were going... again, never had this at any other dealer, and I've owned 6 other cars before my Fit.

Needless to say, I WILL be returning when it comes time to buy another vehicle.

If anyone wants to know the sales persons name, please PM me

Really sorry to hear about your experience!

I don't know much about cars (which is why I brought dad along), but I actually had a good experience at Marv Jones Honda. I bout my Fit there just over a week ago, however it was a certified pre-owned vehicle not a new one. I had been looking for about a month so I didn't get my hopes up. But my dad was able to negotiate a reasonable deal and within 48hrs of first looking at the car I drove it off the lot.

I know every situation is different, but I hope you can find your Fit and have a good customer experience!!
