fuel consumption question

My "Why..why..why " didn't means to burn anyone or anything.
But my Fit will burn my wallet if it keep on running like it. My 15 years old car can run 38l/380KM and the money I spend on 7.1 l/km car isn't what I paid for.
That is the only reason...

That should do it... The same type of setup is common down here and always covered with mud.. They had the National Redneck Olympics just north of here a few years ago with a mud pit so deep that snorkeled intake and exhaust was a must ... I think I would have liked to have spent part of my life in Canada, especially 1968 and 69.

But now he's battling esophageal cancer instead.. Thankfully he's a fighter.

I sense that perhaps while you are fluent and type with far superior grammar than most of my countrymen, English is not your first language?
So maybe my snark and sarcasm are getting filtered out. I would wager you likely speak/type better French than I though so theres that

unbelievable bad millage
Hello everyone!
As some people on this forum have bad millage i think that my fit beats them all.
I have 2008 fit sport with automatic transmission and my average is 11l/100km!!!
Me and my wife are both driving the car in Vancouver, a little bit of highway but mostly city.
We don't race or anything like that and getting this kind of millage is absolutely ridiculous.
I took the car to the dealer "Vancouver Honda" and they almost brushed me off, like it's normal or something.
I even sent an e-mail to Honda Canada and they are saying the same!
What the hell am I supposed to do, I bought the car because I believed the car is good on gas and now the car is averaging 11l/100km.
For one month i even try to drive completely as a grandpa, no a/c or anything like that and i got 10l/100km!
wtf is that?
I was wondering if there are other people here that would consider a law suit against honda???

Second your lawsuit will get laughed out of court.
10-11l/100km is what 20-24mpg? Frankly while it sounds a little low, it is probably about right for a AT doing mostly city commuting.. Are you throwing any CELs or DTCs? If you want <6l/100km in the city, buy a prius.
What sort of gas station are you going to? Have you checked your spark plugs? Is there a lot of lifter tick (misadjusted valves) or a malfunctioning oxygen sensor? There could be any number of easy fixes that could get you back up to 7l/100km or better.
How about you describe your typical driving habits.. you may think you are driving economically but often times poor mileage can be resolved with a driver mod.
For reference after I spent a week intentionally trying to send my fuel trims through the roof I was able to return only 22mpg or a bit better than 11l/100km.
Regularly I return 29-34mpg (7-8l/100km) on winter fuel with snow tires, including 10% ethanol blends.
In the summer on extended road trips of 500km or more I see 8l/100km, and that is with people and various assortments hunting, camping, and fishing/boating gear.
There are people towing 450kg trailers and getting <9l/100km...
I would do a basic tune up and then re-evaluate my driving before trying to start some sort of class action, it sounds childish and impulsive. Not to mention expensive.
Lets say you find a judge that will entertain your suit, what happens when you lose and have to pay for the cost of Honda's legal team?
There are others like JavaFit and 555sexydrive who see almost entirely city commuting and see worse than 10l/100km routinely...
I'm like Java_Fit, only if I decide to get on the expressways to mix up the driving, will I get a tank around 28~30mpg. If I stay all city, I'll be lucky to see 24. I also don't try to conserve fuel, it makes driving boring and I might as well be riding on a bus or train. I have a heavy foot and it has a brain of its own and that brain only knows 555.

ok, its been a while
Here are my latest findings:
After driven like a grandpa for a month, I am still getting 10l/100km!
350 km for a full tank of gas.
Honda service manager suggested 3 reasons why I am having such lousy readings.
1. The car is still new, only at 5000km, not break in yet
2. Winter warm up condition, use more gas
3. I've been using the defrost mode at all time.
This setting switch on the A/C fan and use more gas.
I will continue to monitor see if it will improve or not...
Anyone has anything to add to it?

And he is correct you are not fully broken in.
Winter Warm up will hurt economy. Have you tried using something like cardboard to block air flowing over your radiator and cooling it off? This will speed up the warm up process and will keep coolant temps up during cruise, which will help fuel atomize better.
Do you have ethanol blended into your gasoline?
Have you tried re-gapping your spark plugs or switching to a colder heat range plug?
Have you reset the ECU?
Do you hold the pedal or do you modulate the gas often during cruise?
Are there lots of hills in your area?
Do you spend a significant portion of your commute in city traffic? Are there lots of stop lights?
There are a million and one reasons you could be getting poor mileage, and I would put money on it that it has nothing to do with a fault with the car.
What grade of gas are you using?

alanchan I would say your dealer is giving you good advice. Try to get out and take an hour drive someplace every once and a while - get away from stop and go local driving. You're really not putting many miles on your car at this point.
A consistent easy driving style will result in better MPG, trust the Fit. Thing is it's winter and MPG suffers.
DSM all of alanchan's info is in her sig. A good one at that...

DiamondStarMonsters: Yeah it says it's a TW Fit Sport with A/T in alanchan's signature.
Ethanol yes I think everything except 94octane's got ethanol up here in Vancouver BC now as I remember.
I do go up & down Boundary between Imperial & Marine Way a lot. That's a pretty steep hill there. And I get about 360km/tank. Well of course the more mileage I can get out of a tank the better, but I do know I drive my car pretty hard and climbing that big hill with a small car all the times doesn't help, at all.
Friend lives around Lansdowne Mall & works around SE Marine Drive(feifei here on fitfreak). He gets 450-480km easily in his 07 Fit. Can't complain, coz I can't afford to move to another area with less hills AND obviously CANNOT drive like a granny ever
Actually I'm quite happy coz this car use much less gas compare with my 00 civic SiR already. And MUCH cheaper on insurance too.
What else can I say?

But the rest of my question still stand. I did ASSume she had an auto, but felt I should ask to confirm. A surprising amount of FF members have more than one Fit!
I should update my sig a bit.. As that picture is from an old setup. I just liked the lighting and the fact that it put one of my AEM 5bar MAP sensors in the spot light..
I have a GD3 Sport MT, with only a few very minor items on it.. colder spark plugs, 11lb Rota wheels, Hawk HPS pads, OBD2 Datalogger and I am very tempted to throw an S-AFC 2 on it just to tweak a few things on the timing and fuel tables. But like my plans to turbo the GD3 I am waiting on my warranty to go up, and there are still a few months left.
Then I have a Toyota RAV4 and my Plymouth Laser (1G DSM) which has a whole laundry list of fun stuff done to it.
Everything else was sold over the last two years... including my tow pig, a Ram 3500 Custom Compound-Turbo Diesel that was "bilt to the hilt" with >1000WTQ and a Eagle Talon (2G DSM) which was a DD Road Course Car, Garrett GT3586 in a divided T3 housing, 6 point roll bar and Moton external reservoir set), I also had a Yamaha R6 as well.
I think the whole list is actually in your "Age of Fit owners" thread..
Everything has been sold to help me fund my Land Speed and Standing Mile ambitions with the Laser.. I can PM you a list of what has been done to it if you like

Yes guys, I see that she has an auto trans, but that still leaves everything else unanswered..
Did she answer the rest of those somewhere as well?
You can drive like a granny and still return poor mileage. But that all depends on many other factors.
Which is why some people are reporting better mileage in larger displacement cars. Fuel economy is a complex topic.

Extreme cold and excessive warm ups kill any hopes of good mpg in the winter. I seen it on the scan gauge. In a week you can easily lose 2 gallons(7.5 liters of gas) in warming the car, then add the higher loads with the heater, lights, defroster and you have very low mpg. 23 doesn't sound bad if you take all that into consideration. A properly maintained car mean no damage will happen to those parts.

DSM You're seeming to come across as the inquisitor. alanchan is under no obligation to answer any of your questions. Lighten up dude and be constructive. Provide suggestions, it's your obligation to help answer questions, no snow everyone with your 'knowledge'.

How do you help anyone without asking questions?
I like to know whats going on before I suggest things... and no one is holding a gun to her head to answer. Nor is anyone forcing you for that matter, but I did change my sig at your suggestion
I asked about ethanol blends, like US E10 pump gas, because that sort of thing can make a significant difference in mileage, as much as 5% which is the average I have since switching toBP 93 (E0) on a tip from SB
So I can't just assume that her car is stock either when she already has a mod list, which is why I ask about things like spark plugs. She may be mechanically/chemically inclined as well, like some of the other women on this board.
So, I am not just gonna dumb it down for her because she is a girl, wouldn't that be kind of condescending?
What was said to alanchan that was not constructive?
I get the feeling that you generally don't like me or something and that's fine I guess, I'm not certain what I've done to you? Maybe you just don't like my posting style or that I like to elaborate, and that's fine too.
But I am not doing it to show off.
I have learned a good deal from many people on this board, but only because they share or I asked them a question.
From what I recall.. you had some experience with the Northstar V8's perhaps you could share some of what you learned in the process sometime?
