Grand Summer Group Meet & Drive - Sunday, June 21, 2009
Ok, guys and gals....lets get serious about enjoying summer with a "real" meet & drive to enjoy the supernatural scenery of British Columbia and great summer weather!
Basically it will be a whole-day meet, drive and picnic affair starting from Vancouver (Safeway Store in Marpole @ Granville Street & 70th Avenue, where we assemble and proceed to Horseshoe Bay to board the ferry for a short 40-minute ride to the Sunshine Coast, then enjoy the nice twisty highway to Pender Harbor.
Enjoy our picnic (BBQ) and hiking and possibly some water sports for those who are more adventurous; lots of fun and great winding roads.
Sounds interesting? All Fitsters both north and south of the border are invited. Well, just sign in and more details will follow.
Meantime, anyone who wish to help organize this, please contact me by email, PM or call. The ladies will participate too; guess who will look after the logistics of food for the picnic/BBQ.
Lets all pitch in and make this a big success.

Maybe, but I am afraid there maybe a lot of no shows because most people don't like the hassle of crossing the border. A number of registrants are conditional too.
Don't you think a cruise to Sunshine Coast is a lot more interesting.

BTW, I like Fitster's idea of staying overnight in Seattle or even Everett (near the shopping malls). We can plan this together if you like.

I am busy that day and with a tech meet but if this was going to happen again at a later date after I get a passport or a new drivers license I will make the commute up to enjoy the day and see Vancouver since my only real experiences are the malls and Chinatown. I will check back every once in awhile and see since I plan on going to Vancouver sometime this summer.

This meet was canceled for lack of participants. Headed down to White Rock for fish & chips instead.
This is really a nice drive, so hopefully there will be more people that will join next time around.

At long last......we did it on Friday, July 24, 2009!
Well, the trip to the Sunshine Coast finally became a reality...with a couple of adventurous FitFreaks.
Allow me to share some pictures with you.
After some anxious moments, we made it to Horseshoe Bay in time to catch the first sailing
yesterday morning.
After 40 minutes on the ferry, we arrived at Langdale.
A short drive took us to Gibson's Landing for some photo ops.
Off to visit Hank and Sylvia at "Around the Bend". Our vehicles taking a break.
After a sumptuous lunch at Sechelt Golf Club, we all headed to the driving range! Guinness ready to smash the ball like Tiger Woods.
Next, a visit to the new "Painted Boat Resort in Madeira Park; an easy 15-minute drive north of Sechelt.
After a delicious snack consisting of calamari, creme brulee, lemon tart, green tea and coffee........sightings of giant starfish!
A pleasant 45-minute drive late in the afternoon brings us back to Langdale for our pleasant ferry ride back to Horseshoe Bay.
We had a great day trip and wish you guys could have joined in.

Thanks Guinness and Ekonetics. Guinness, please post pictures of the food and deserts we had. Perhaps it will encourage more FitFreaks to join in
next time around.
