Winter Driving School Jan 23 $30
Non-competitive, perfect for girlfriends, wives, younger brothers, who want to learn winter driving skills on snow and ice.
Safe environment to learn the limits of your vehicle.
My write up from last year:
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/grea...chool-who.html
Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, 8 am - 4pm with a lunch break from 11:30 - 1 pm.
Set up will be from about 6:30 am - 7:30/8 am.
Schedule (to be confirmed):
6:30-8 am - instructors and helpers - however if you want to help out, you are always welcome to do so. We appreciate all the help we can get!
7:30-8:00 am - Check-in, registration, fee payment and signing of waivers. Cost to be finalized (about $30) and hopefully on Karelo.com
8:15 am SHARP – driver’s meeting, introductions and split up into groups and proceed onto the ice from the parking lot beside Hwy 1A.
8:30 am (or sooner) – individual groups begin driving at their respective stations.
11:30-1:00 pm – LUNCH - Boston Pizza at Cochrane (west side). This is a working lunch so we will have a round-table discussion of the morning experiences and learnings. You also have the option to have lunch at the site (if you bring your own lunch/sandwiches), however we would recommend you join us for lunch due to the discussion since you can learn more there from the observations of others in the group. Besides, it is nice to get inside for a little bit.
1-4 pm – afternoon sessions and possibly a little contest at the end.
4 pm – final driver’s meeting.
4 pm ff – depending on conditions and personnel there may be some more practice time and course tear-down.
Let us know if you are interested in helping out or participating.
Initially this thread is to gage interest and to determine no. of instructors needed etc.

This is a sweet course, I would highly recommend it even to those of you who are confident in the snow!
I talked my wife into it last year too, she usually uses the death grip and flat out refuses to drive in snowy conditions... but after a little while out on the course she was handling the course like a pro and it vastly improved her confidence.
There are also opportunities to goof off a bit too, it is instructed by some of the autocross guys and they love to have fun too... I drifted my Fit totally ass sideways for like a kilometer at about 90km last year a couple of times... with snow whipping up over the side and being able to balance the drift perfectly, it was nothing short of pure awesome!
