Maybe trading in the Fit for....

So when I was buying my 4x4 SUV and I ended up with a Hummer truck/4x4/5 seater I got to thinking... my bases are pretty much covered when it comes to versatility now.

Then the fact I spent 1/2 as much on it as I was budgeting for and now I have a large chunk of cash just sitting around... calling my name. So I got to thinking, why not just splurge on something really crazy... if something is worth doing then you might as well over-do it.

So maybe time to buy something more dedicated to fun... and what is more fun that a Fit?

An Audi R8 of course

Anyway, I ahve a year to mull it over for next spring.

Yeah it is a lot of money, I know logically the right thing to do is make the final push towards being mortgage free... but there is a part of me that wants to still be reasonably young when I pick up a car like this.

Great car no doubt! How about something less expensive and a few mods

S2K, 350Z, Used US spec EVO VIII/IX, 04-05 STI?

The R8 is so overkill it actually suits my style though I was doing the numbers tonight and if things turn around a bit in the market I could probably swing it.

The EVO & STi are out for me, the AWD system makes them pretty heavy and I have been pretty disappointed with the stock performance I have been seeing.

350Z & G35 are hot little machines though.

I am still toying with the idea of buying a late 80's 325i and stripping it down next year. I still have a soft sport for the early bulldog BMW styling

Do it, I raced with 2 E30 M3's this season and the are fantastic cars. Both faster than my civic and they were stock on street tires...

With that said the STI is not anywhere close to as good as the EVO is. The EVO is a fantastic car and with a few mods, you have a 400whp track/street beast that can outbrake most cars and can handle with the best of them. It's also probably about the same weight as the R8 and has 2 more doors and seats for convenience :P

If you can afford the R8 though friggin' get that for sure!

I guess the other thing to consider is that if I buy a fancy car you can bet I am not going to be just cruising... I will be abusing

At the Audi Dealer a week later; "Er, I kind of broke the CV in the R8 last weekend"

We will see, I might be go for a 3rd car after all. Lots of junkers in Kijiji just waiting to be picked up

There is even one that is 75% done

lol, or this one. It looks just like my old 320i!

That is a pretty sweet car, you got to test drive it? Cool!

But seems to me it is designed more for comfort and touring... it is a bit porky at 4200lbs and likely doesn't come with the all important manual tranny!

An Audi bought in the USA would sweeten the pot. Save a ton.

Whoa dude...that is sweet! I'm so jealous of you and your financial position right now.

Get the V8, I think that'll be more to your liking. More flickable and lighter than the V10, although less of a supercar.

Let us know what you decide to do with your "fun" money.

lol, don't be too jealous; My financial well-being is tied directly to the cost of one barrel of oil

If things are good this year and into 2010 then I could be making a visit to the Audi dealer in the spring

UPDATE 2010:

Well spring of 2010 is here, but the cost of an R8 has now sky rocketed to a whopping 141K CAD base price...

I also ended up starting a huge landscaping/deck project this spring... I literally tore out every shred of grass on my entire propery and had everything re-graded. I am about half way into the project and it has already made a huge dent in my "new car" fund

So instead of sitting in a fancy new car I will be sitting in a lawn chair drinking beer for this summer

But fear not, for not all is lost. I have enough tread left on the racing rims for a summer season of autocross with the Fit. Then I plan to start parting it out come October and through the winter.

Now for the spring of 2011... that is when they are releasing that new BMW 1 series M-car (or whatever they plan to call it). That is probably what I will be trading the Fit for now

So anyway, check back in another year! lol
