Per salesman new Fit will get 350,000 to 400,000 miles
Yesterday my wife and I drove 40 miles to see the Honda Fit. We were both very impressed. The salesman told me the new Fit should last between 350,000 and 400,000 miles. I know the quality in the Honda Fits is very high but I find this a bit hard to believe. Both of us start off slow and are easy on the brakes. I plan on using Bosch oil filters and Mobil 1 Oil changing the oil every 8,000 miles. Please share your opinions on this with me. Thank you for your help.

I believe this is possible
I am at 332,500+ miles right now on my 2007 GD3 5AT. I am doing my best to make it to 500,000. I have been changing my oil once a year with Amsoil full synthetic, along with one of their high quality filters.
FYI, I have since been rethinking my oil change strategy. I plan to change oil every 6 months from now on.

you would have have been better off changing at a higher frequency when newer than on the back end. Any sludge or deposits happened a long time ago

Long Live the Fit!
Based upon how you state you and your wife drive, with dedicated adherence to maintenance, it is feasible for your Fit to reach the high mileage. There a re a few Fit owners who've reached/and are approaching the goal. Good Luck!

That's about what a Honda can do. Especially if you live outside of the salt belt.
I live in Canada and drove my 1994 Honda Civic to 340 000 miles until I gave it to a friend to be converted into a week-end race car
I would have kept it for longer if the body had been in good shape but rust became an issue.
The drivetrain was still all original except the input shaft bearing in the transmission.
We're talking about a car that is 23 years behind on technology that saw 23 Canadian winters.
A new Fit should to the same without problem.

I think I was baptized by a car salesman.
I really think any "exact" prediction of how long a vehicle could last or will last is BS.
Too many variables.
Honda, has a good reputation for building above average products. And you pay a premium for that reputation.
I think most vehicles are designed to last at least as long as the average length of car payments.
If it's a brand new car, that I have bought and drove off the lot, and I suffer no accidents, and keep up with maintenance? I expect a relatively trouble free 60,000 to 100,000 miles. But that isn't guaranteed with any vehicle.
You can get a whole lot more...you can get a whole lot less.
I certainly wouldn't purchase a vehicle based on The Salesmans statement that it should last 350,000 to 400,000 miles. That's nearly like the Shark telling you should jump right in the water is fine.
Yes, I know, Honda has the reputation of quality because everyone has a story about The Honda they drove, or their friend drove for some insane amount of miles.
And I wouldn't put a ceiling on how long a Honda may or may not last. BUT...350,000-400.000 miles is a lot of run time. And these are machines. If you get that amount of life? Good for you.
But to expect that amount of life?
I wouldn't do it, even if I do think Honda's are above average products.

considering some sales person a while back told me a mazda3 had a v8 engine with 32 valves dont believe anything ur sales person says.
if one studies the car over the internet, chances are you'll have more knowledge about the car vs the sales guy. you can test your knowledge with the sales guy for his/her funny replies.

sure, it CAN ... maybe ...
it's quite a reliable car but a Toyota would be my bet hands down if that is your goal. or any car that's had minor, incremental changes over a really long period. heck even something like a base corvette probably falls into that category (but no comment on the fuel economy over 500K miles)!

Nothing against Toyota per se, but I laugh every time I see their latest commercials trying to portray the Toyota Camry as an exciting and sporty car to drive. That's the Toyota Camry, the epitome of the "plain vanilla four-door sedan."

yah, i laughed at that commercial too. i SUPPOSE since it's kinda similar to the lexus IS but in a FWD platform it *could* be sort of sporty-ish?
even the maxima is a joke.. the early 90's one i liked, but they are just a frikken FWD 50yr old male who couldn't get anywhere in life car..
the accord is like the i gave up on life car. haha
