My review of the General Altimax RT43 tire

I will start by saying that I ordered a set of 4 from TireRack and although I found them just a little bit cheaper on other sites (after the fact), I have no complaints about it as I still only paid ~$70-ish per tire and received them within two days.

Secondly, being that I live in New England, wet and snow traction is very high on my list of priorities and lucky for me, it snowed heavily 3 days after having them mounted.

I was entering a parking lot that had not been plowed yet and know for a FACT my car would have just spun tires and left me stuck. But not with these. The car seemed to shake left and right a little until it made it to the pavement and easily made it through. I have never felt so confident in the snow before with my little Fit.

And then last night. My wife and I went out to dinner and I decided to move my car as I spotted a better parking spot which required a fast and illegal u-turn. I pressed the accelerator hard which typically would squeal the tires but these gripped immediately and the Fit just took off.

I strongly recommend them! Oh, and they're rated for a supposed 70,000 miles.

Thanks for the review bud! I just had an alignment and they said I'm still at 4/32 and I'm at 36555 so I think I can get 40k-42k before really needing to replace them. The RT43s are at the top of my list.

We had our first snowfall this morning and the Fit handled the neighborhood roads just fine. They had not been plowed yet, but granted we're talking about 1" and some slush so no big deal. Major roads already were plowed. If we get some serious snowfall, I still have my 4Runner with Dueler Revos that eat up that kind of stuff.

I have the exact opposite opinion of the RT43, I found them to be quite poor tires, in all conditions on my old Fit.

I had my OEM tires for 7 1/2 years and 45,000 miles so I was over due!

Poor?! What exactly do you expect from a tire?

To be as good as the tires they replaced? When I bought my Fit, it had some junky Firestone FR710, when I put the RT43 on, I yearned for the Firestones. The fuel mileage was better on the Firestones, snow traction was better (even as the Firestones were getting low on tread) & I could spin RT43 on cold days with dry pavement, which while hilarious in a slow dorkmobile isn't a great confidence booster.

I've had no issues with the Yokohama Avid Ascend or Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 on my current Fit.

I've currently got the Firestones and am planning on the RT43s as replacement based on hundreds of positive reviews from multiple sites.

We just got a second snow storm since getting my tires and they are incredible IMO. Traction was excellent and stopping was better than ever. I am more than pleased.

I had them and thought they were ok a step above the OEM (what isn't?). However, they only lasted 45k miles and that was because I delayed replacing them until fall (I was informed they were below min tread in April). So I got 40k miles out of it before it went out of spec which is only a bit more than the OEM crapo tires which lasted 35k.

For that reason I am trying Kumho's PA31's this time on my 09 base.

PA31s was the other option I was looking at. Know that they actually have a lower tire UTQG rating than the RT43 so they'll wear out faster.
