The better buy?

Assume both in good condition, no major scratches, both clean titles.

I live in Seattle (zip 98115) and am looking for a used Honda Fit to start me off on, and there are only two feasible ones I can find from local dealerships. NOTE: They're both Sport models.

Option A) 2008 for $10,995 with 68,517 miles
or
Option B) 2010 for $12,794 with 65,308 miles.

I am not sure if the extra $$$ of the newer model is worth the fact it is a younger car with the same mileage.

I live in Seattle and Fits seem oddly pricier out here - and being from the UK I am not sure how buying from another state works - something like paying the tax both there and when I get back?

Anyone able to offer some sort of suggestions/ stories on how much a used Honda Fit of about 2008-2011 models would cost - and what an everage sort of mileage is?

According to KBB and the random Seattle zip I threw in, that's outrageously overpriced.

Kelley Blue Book

Perhaps prices are going up everywhere in Seattle because of the impending minimum wage increase?

Hi again,

There is another Fit that has surfaced. It's a bit of a story from my emails with the seller so bare with me:

It's a 2010 Sport, 40,000miles. Listed at $13,500. I contacted them and said the price is more than dealerships - they said they are open to negotiation as they "just made a big scratch on it" and said it now will go for around $9500.

Here's the shady bit -- the photos on the listing were all spotless, but there was no photo of the side that "just had the scratch" which leads me to think it's bait and switch (perfect car for sale - oh no, I literally just damaged it -cough-cough-)

It's on Craigslist, another reason to be wary. The listing said it was kept in the garage for 4 years (I will make sure to ask if it at least was turned on and driven somewhat regular, though the low miles may suggest not).

I have attached a photo of the damage and would ask for advise. Should I view the car, negotiate a price and then the money I save on the price (as it is cheap) put that towards repairing the damage at my leisure?

Or should I just steer clear of this vehicle?

Here is a link to a photo of the scratch. you think it'd cost more to repair than I'd save on the price?

I think I would hold out a little longer if you could. The car looks as if it got pushed in a little along with the big scratch.

If it was me, I would continue the search.
