Yeah, refer to that thread above. I find the best trick is either touching the metal of the door before you move to get out, or taking your house key and touching it to the metal - it'll discharge the static and you won't get shocked directly. Don't use your car key if you're a Sport or keyless entry owner! The electrical charge can damage and fry the circuitry inside our keyless entry keys.
You'll find all this info and more in the thread mentioned above. Static guard is great - but I'm too green to even consider aerosols, and why invest in a grounding strip when your key does it for you?
And as far as exploding upon fill up for fuel, well it's a hazard, but rare. Somewhere between you stopping the car, getting out, and either a)going in to pre-pay cash for gas, or b) going and swiping you CC and hitting those buttons, you're bound to discharge before you come into real danger of sparking gasoline. Look at it this way - things like this always seem more common then they really are because it's going to get reported in the news. But no one reports in the news about all the people who gas up without harm. Anyway, its a nuisance like many small ones we have to learn to deal with having all this technology around us.
The key to solving this problem is just that - your key.
