Counter Act Electronic Rust Inhibitor ?
The above gizmo has just appeared at my local Canadian Tire store,do any of the esteemed forum members have any experience with this or any similar device,on the Fit of other vehicle? If so was the installation complicated, and did it have a disruptive effect on the cars electrical/electronic systems? Also, where are they available in the Northern U.S.and at what price approx.Regards from (cool by name but not by nature)

I've been seeing the commercials up here in Canada too and it has me wondering in all the years of motoring why does this product appear now to the masses? Testimonials of which I've been reading seem to deem it okay.
Does regular rustproofing and this product form an awesome tag team?

From Car Talk, about Electronic Rustproofing:

I wouldn't go for it, and that was before I read the article.

Haha, I saw that too. Pure snake oil!
Rustproofing does work except that the whole exhaust system (header, exchange pipe, muffler) cannot be rustproofed. I believe the oil would just heat up and leak or burn right off. In Canada, the company called Rust Check (they make different rust converting products available at CT) does licence out shops to do rust proofing with their brand name and they offer somewhat of a warranty.
If you do get rustproofing done, there are certain parts that can't be rustproofed like certain bearings.

Silly me had my Taffy undercoated by dealer instead of using any of the local companies so likely paid premium. But I have no rust.
Downside of undercoating is the mess under hood. All along the front it is dirty black from accumulation of dirt in the undercoating. But beats rust and don't have to keep it spotless. I have hit a couple spots that were not undercoated with a Rust paint and seems to be working.
Regular washing every couple of weeks in winter is best protection.
Crappy Tire does get some bad products on occasion but it is still on my weekly visitation list.

I found a great article in the globe and mail (http://www.theglobea.../article535224/) showing how overpriced the erp's are when the dealer sells them. so i decided to check out the krown blog to hear their thoughts on electronic rust proofing (Thinking of Electronic Rust Protection? Think again..) and came across the list of products recommended by the Automobile Protection Agency - thought I should post it here for folks:
http://www.apa.ca/se...ustproofing.asp
They give a pretty good run-down on how dealers profit but drivers are overcharged with these devices. They also list some trusted rustproofers from Canada.

^^ sounds good!
btw, A HUGE WARNING on the rustolium spray cans... about a week ago one of the rustolium cans started leaking from the SIDE of the can where it's welded together. I recommend anyone with rustolium spray cans to place them in bags or a plastic totes while in storage. Mine was stored inside the house away from heat or sun.... still started leaking. Ive never had this problem with non-rustolium spray cans.
i was very lucky that i found this problem early on. that week i was away on a trip and came home to sell paint inside the house where i found this problem just starting to take place.
